GOOD WORKS FROM THE FATHER
Monday – June 17, 2019, Sivan 14, 5779
Greetings precious saints of the only living God and welcome back to this fascinating and revealing Bible Study of the Book of John. Now let us turn our attention to the Bible Study and read the primary text aloud.
John 10:30-36 (KJV)
30 I and my Father are one.
31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.
32 Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?
33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.
34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?
35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;
36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?
Last Friday we left off with verse thirty and the statement, the idea, the reality, that Jesus and the Father are one. As we will find out later in this Book of John, we are one with both of them and I might add the Holy Spirit. I don’t think it is possible to be one with one and not all three persons of the co-equal God. We also discussed how this reality of oneness with God is related to the peace of God. They are intimately intertwined, if you are not clear on this you might find it useful to go back and read, study again. As we move forward into verse thirty-one, we find that the Jews are in an uproar again, a murderous uproar, because Jesus said He was one with the Father. Today when we see news clips from the middle east, we still see that they want to stone people. They have wanted to stone Jesus previously because He healed on the Sabbath therefore breaking the law of the Sabbath in their eyes. Jesus is interested in why they want to stone Him so He asks. I suspect His inquiry inflamed them further.
John 10:32 (KJV)
32 Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?
In this verse Jesus again points out that Jehovah, Yahweh, God is His Father and that it is the Father who did the good works. These Jews know that with any species, one must be of that species to be the father of any offspring. Therefore, Jesus is saying He is of the same species as the Father. One might say; “well yeah, He is God”. Not during His earthly ministry. Jesus did not function as God from the womb of Mary to the Resurrection. It was not even possible during the earthly ministry of Christ Jesus for Him to operate as God, He had shed those attributes. He operated in the earth just exactly the same way we are to operate in the earth. I would also point out that we are created/made in the image and likeness of God. The very essence of God was breathed into us and we became living souls just like the Father. In the same class as God but absent the attributes of God such as all knowing, all powerful, and everywhere present. We are not Gods, but we are gods subject to the will of God. More on that in just a moment. The religious folks might want to quit reading right here, this could be stressful for you. Jesus was the vessel through which the Holy Spirit, the agent of the Father, performed the good works (Anointing ignited by faith). Now the Jews, the religious ruling class answer.
John 10:33 (KJV)
33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.
So, we see in their answer that they correctly equated His calling the Father (Yahweh) His Father as placing Him in the same species (class). They considered this blasphemy. Since the advent of the Church we commonly call ourselves the children of God, sons and daughters of God, and call Him our Heavenly Father and think nothing of it. However, to suggest that we also are gods brings quite the outcry. You cannot be a child of God, a son or a daughter of God, and He cannot be our Father without being in the same class of being. He is never called the Father of the angels for example and that is because they are not in the same class of being. For that matter neither is any other created being. Tomorrow we will see what Jesus has to say.

25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
