HEALTH, HEALING, AND MIRACLES – PART THIRTY-SIX
Sunday – November 11, 2018, Kislev 3, 5779

Greetings to all who are joining this Bible Study today. As you can readily see this is part thirty-six of an ongoing series about Health, Healing, and Miracles each Sunday. As I have mentioned repeatedly Health is God’s best and our responsibility to maintain by faith in the Word of God. Should we become ill for any number of reasons, all of which involve lack of faith, healing and miracles are ours when we identify the key issue, develop faith and receive our healing. We then have the responsibility to maintain our healing, our health, by faith, that is the only possible outcome type of faith. Today I will be talking about another large catch of fish.
John 21:1-11 (KJV)
1 After these things Jesus shewed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias; and on this wise shewed he himself.
2 There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples.
3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing.
4 But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus.
5 Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No.
6 And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.
7 Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher’s coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.
8 And the other disciples came in a little ship; (for they were not far from land, but as it were two hundred cubits,) dragging the net with fishes.
9 As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread.
10 Jesus saith unto them, Bring of the fish which ye have now caught.
11 Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken. (Bold added by Dr. Wood)
When our primary text starts with “After these things” it is referring to the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Christ Jesus. The disciples, Apostles, were in a daze and not yet clear where to go from here. Peter declares to them “I go a fishing”. However, if you read beyond our study for today in this same chapter you will find Peter getting instruction in the seventeenth (17 is the number of victory) verse with the Words of the Master “feed my sheep”. Now, back to our primary text. The disciples named in the passage above had gone fishing with Peter and have caught nothing. Jesus is on the shore and asks them if they caught anything to which they replied, “No”. They did not recognize who it was at first. Jesus commanded them to cast the net to the right side of the ship and they enclosed more fish in the net than they could draw into the boat. The first one to recognize Jesus was “that disciple whom Jesus loved”. Now we know from Scripture that in order for it to say “whom Jesus loved” that the disciple had to love (agape) Jesus. Remember, that Godly love means at its root to be obedient to the Word of God.
John 14:21 (KJV)
21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
If we are not seeing the manifestation of the Word in our lives it means we are not doing the Word of God in faith. Scripture tells us that whatever is not of faith is sin (Romans 14:23). As we near the end of our text we find Jesus telling them to bring Him the fish they just caught. We see that the number of fishes caught is exactly one hundred and fifty-three and unlike John chapter two the net did not break. Don’t you find it interesting and curious why we are given a specific number? Was Jesus acting as a man or God when He told them to cast the net on the right side of the boat and they got these one hundred and fifty-three fish? What about in John chapter two? In both cases He is acting as a man. At this time Christ Jesus is all man (resurrected man) and all God. If there are religious people reading this put out the fire in your hair. During Jesus’ earthly ministry He was not big G God but little g god like us and like Adam. When Jesus was made sin so we could be righteous He regained the authority given man in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 1:26). However, even as a man He is also God and as God He could not exercise authority in the earth. Authority in the earth rests with man in Christ Jesus.
His work also returned the Blessing (Holy Spirit) to the earth and available to all peoples (Galatians 3:14). He is the quickening Spirit due to the finished work of Christ Jesus. Now what about the number one hundred fifty-three? It is my understanding that the numeric value of the phrase “sons of God” in Hebrew is 153. The message from Jesus to them was that they are to be fishers of men making sons of God. Our mission is exactly the same. Another way to evaluate this number which is equally wonderful is to break it into its component parts of 100, 50, and 3. One hundred is God’s election of grace, fifty is the number of Holy Spirit and jubilee, and three the number of Divine completeness. The sacrifice and resurrection of Christ Jesus did it all!
Until our next publication, I speak this Scriptural prayer for your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Exodus 15:26 (KJV)
26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.
