HIS FOOTSTOOL – OUR FOOTSTOOL
Wednesday – June 28, 2017

All too soon hump day is upon us. Our Arabian camel is giving thanks unto the Lord. I must ask myself, am I giving thanks unto my Lord Jesus. Lord help me to redeem the time, making the best use of my time for the Kingdom of God. Greetings and welcome back to The Three Minute Word Bible Study from the Book of Hebrews. Hebrews is such a wonderful Book, all of Scripture is so wonderful.
Hebrews 1:13-14 (KJV)
13 But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool?
14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?
The Scriptures we have been reviewing for the last several days have given us a front row seat to the Resurrection and Restoration of the Word. Wow, and then consider that we are in Him! We are joint-heirs with The Word (Jesus) and we are again of like kind, again in His image and likeness, we are living souls in Him, and again created just a little lower than Elohim.
From our text, we see that the author of Hebrews led of the Spirit of God continues to set forth the position (and our position in Him) of our risen Savior and Lord. As I have pointed out before Jesus is not the only One seated at the right hand of God on Heavens Throne, with Majesty on high. We are also seated there in Him, right now, not some ethereal hypothetical so called spiritual gobblety goop. Yes, we can be in two places at once and perhaps more, we are seated with and in Him in Heaven and we are walking the earth and we are not diminished in either reality (Ephesians 2:6).
The enemies of the Son are our enemies. If those common enemies are being made His footstool then they are our footstool, under our feet, as well. The feet and a footstool are in contact with each other. I think most of us can agree that the battles in which we have been or are involved with are indeed a contact occasion. We are in contact with the enemy but our strength and authority is so far above our spiritual enemies which must be embarrassing to them. You and I brother and sister are the ones given the assignment of making these enemies His and our footstool by the Power of God and leadership of the Father.
Ephesians 1:20-23 (KJV)
20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
The idea imparted with the phrase “Far above all” is not like the ceiling is over our heads or even like the clouds are far above, it is more like I’m on Mars and you are on earth, that far. So, in terms of feeling or observing the circumstances orchestrated (by our spiritual enemies) in our lives which are real and all too personal at times, the authority and power to deal with those situations does not allow for a contest of any kind. The contesting of this reality is in our minds. If the enemy can get us focused on our physical surroundings and not our spiritual realities he has got us. That is what happened to Adam and Eve, that is what happened to Peter on the water, that is what has happened to anyone engaged in fornication or adultery, stealing, and so on. We need to get this through our heads so to speak and walk it out. The account of Jesus and Peter walking on the water could have been a lot different if Peter had not considered his physical circumstances (the wind boisterous). Our spiritual enemies are always going to be loud and boisterous which is their substitute for authority and the power to back it up. On the other hand, we have no need to be loud and boisterous for we have the authority and power of the Creator.
This first chapter of Hebrews ends with the focus back on the holy angels and their proper role in the Kingdom of God. Yahweh, Jehovah, the Father tells through the human author of this wonderful Book that the angels are ministering spirits. And further He tells us that they are to minister on behalf of those who are inheriting salvation, which is you and me brother and sister. Let’s look at the fourteenth verse in a different Bible translation, which I think will make things clearer.
Hebrews 1:14 (HCSB)
14 Are they not all ministering spirits sent out to serve those who are going to inherit salvation?
The obtaining of our salvation is a done deal but the fulness of it is an ongoing fulfillment. For example, we still walk about in a corrupted body with the promise of a body like unto our Savior to come. Let us consider the following Scriptures as we explore this phrase “heirs of salvation”.
2 Corinthians 1:21-22 (KJV)
21 Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God;
22 Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.
Romans 8:23 (KJV)
23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
Our salvation nor the completion of our salvation is in question, it is a timing issue. We have been given the Holy Spirit for the here and now but we will have a full redemption of our body. That is going to be quite the upgrade. As I conclude for today let’s look back at the angels as those who minister for the saints. So, in that regard let’s look at the next verse.
Psalm 103:20 (HCSB)
20 Praise the LORD, ⌊all⌋ His angels of great strength, who do His word, obedient to His command.
We see that angels are very powerful and they move at the Word of God which they consider to be and receive as a command. They are not waiting to hear a command from the Throne of Heaven, they are waiting to hear the Word of God in our mouth, uttered in response to the leadership of the Holy Spirit (love of God) and uttered in faith. Don’t you think this sounds somewhat like the eighth Psalm which tells us to command His hands which is the Holy Spirit and the holy angels.
Psalm 8:6 (KJV)
6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:
Isn’t the Word of God wonderful, God has done so much for us, has crowned us with glory and honor, and has given us His very own authority and power. When will we man up (woman up) and do the will of God?
Partnership Invitation: As we end our study of the Book of Hebrews for today I want to extend an invitation to the followers of this blog who are not partners to consider becoming partners with us in the disseminating of the knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord. Prayerfully consider partnership and if led of the spirit simply go to the blog and you will find the partnership information in the right sidebar.
Until our next publication, I speak blessing into your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)
24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
