HONOR THE FATHER
Friday – April 12, 2019, Nisan 7, 5779

Greetings precious children of God, sons and daughters of a Kingdom far above all others, and welcome back to this illuminating Bible Study of the Book of John. Those who receive this on Facebook please take just a moment to “like” and “share” even if you are just looking at the pictures and are not diligent with the Word. The featured picture is also of the ranch we had in Texas and more blue bonnets in the pasture, hay field. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text and prepare to delve deeply into the Truth which is life to each of us but requires diligence with humility.
John 8:47-51 (KJV)
47 He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.
48 Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?
49 Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me.
50 And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.
51 Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.
The Samaritan’s were not well regarded by the Jews so calling Jesus a Samaritan although they most certainly knew otherwise is a major insult say nothing of telling Him He had a devil. We all must guard our mouths against such language. Like our mother’s taught us, if we can’t say something good, we should not say anything at all. That is righteous timeless advice and is Bible, think Philippians 4:8. And, I might add, when we find ourselves repeatedly thinking negative thoughts about a person, saint or sinner, we must take those thoughts captive and speak the will of God which is not damnation. The Lord will teach us how to love (act in their best interest) the unlovable and how to properly love the loveable. From our text Jesus does not answer the Samaritan thing, I suspect that He like the Father loves all people and He was not ashamed to be associated with a Samaritan (and neither should we). However, He would have nothing to do with the accusation that He had a devil.
He quickly tells these Jews that they are dishonoring Him and that He is all about honoring His Father, the Heavenly Father. To honor means that we treat the person with high respect, holding them in great esteem. Let’s take a moment and examine ourselves asking if we are honoring our Heavenly Father or are we honoring someone else or other things above Him? The honoring of God and other people is a vital part of Blood Covenant. Each and every person on the face of the earth had the same precious Blood sacrificed for them just like us. God the Father loves them just like us, just like Jesus. Are we violating our Blood Covenant with the Father in our thought life and with our careless words? It has occurred to me that some reading this may be hoping I will move off this topic shortly.
Jesus moves on telling them that this is not about Him but about the Father. He (Jesus) is clear that He not seeking for His own glory (goodness to be attributed to Him) but all glory belongs to the Father. The Father will look after what is rightfully belonging to Jesus. Perhaps the following translation will add to our study.
John 8:50 (AMP)
50 However, I am not in search of honor for Myself. [I do not seek and am not aiming for My own glory.] There is One Who [looks after that; He] seeks [My glory], and He is the Judge.
Isn’t it just wonderful that we have One who has our back day and night and He is full of nothing but righteousness, mercy, and justice! Next, we come to verse fifty-one (phew he is finally moving on) which totally threw the Jews into a perplexity.
John 8:51 (KJV)
51 Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.
John 8:51 (TLB)
51 With all the earnestness I have I tell you this—no one who obeys me shall ever die!”
The word “keep” in our text has to do not only with having, having knowledge of and doing, but guarding with all due diligence. From time to time the Lord brings the following verse to mind and this seems to be a good place to bring it to your mind.
Hebrews 2:1 (KJV)
1 Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.
Lord willing, I will pick up here next week. Until our next publication, as a Bible Teacher and Prophetic Voice I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it by faith in Jesus name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
