NOAH

Greetings and welcome back to this wonderful faith building Bible study on faith from the Book of Hebrews. God is so good to give us His Word teaching us the proper and improper exercise of faith. Many of us know that what we are doing is not working, and intuitively we know it is not the Lords’ fault. In addition, there does not seem to be any clear guidance from the leadership of the Church. Dear saints of God, all the answers are in the Holy Book we call the Bible, the Word of God. For the most part if we are to step into financial abundance it will take the leadership of the Holy Spirit and an abundance of commerce on our part (Ecclesiastes 5:3). We are to operate on another level with supernatural ideas without toil or sweat of the brow. Toil and sweat of the brow are under the curse. Our success will come with sweatless labor and without toil. Like Daniel we should be recognized to be ten times better than the best the world has to offer. We have the Blessing who empowers us for supernatural thought and action.
Daniel 1:20 (KJV)
20 And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.
And Daniel wasn’t saved and filled with the Holy Spirit! However, by faith he and other Hebrews obtained righteousness. Now let us turn our attention to our primary text in the Book of Hebrews the faith of Noah.
Hebrews 11:6-7 (KJV)
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.
I think just about everybody knows something on some level about Noah and the flood of Noah’s day. God told Noah He was going to destroy all flesh on earth with a flood and he was to build an Ark. It was one-hundred years from the command to build the Ark (Genesis 5:32) until the flood (Genesis 7:6) covered the earth. In the following verse God sets the days of man at one-hundred and twenty years. Science has shown that the human body under the best of natural circumstances will cease to have the capacity of repair and renewal at or about one-hundred and twenty years. This life span of 120 years was set for fallen man, what about a born again main filled with the Holy Spirit and matured into the image of Christ? I believe it can far exceed the 120 years set for fallen man.
Genesis 6:3 (KJV)
3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
God tells Noah that He is about to destroy all flesh (man and beast) from the earth with a flood. Prior to this there had never been rain on the earth say nothing of a flood.
Genesis 2:5-6 (KJV)
5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.
6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.
The only ones saved were to be Noah and his immediate family (house). Noah was a righteous man because he believed God and walked with God like his fathers before him.
Genesis 6:8-10 (KJV)
8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.
9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.
10 And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
His belief in and of God followed by action (faith) made Noah righteous and the sole reason for this righteousness (right standing with God) was his faith. Faith is the only way to please God, Noah like Enoch before him pleased God. An interesting aspect of all this is that Scripture only makes reference to Noah having found favor or grace in the eyes of the LORD. However, Noah’s faithfulness before God resulted in the salvation, deliverance of his wife, his three sons, and their wives. This impresses upon all of us that our efforts before God will bring others with us that perhaps have not had the same commitment or zeal. In the following Scriptures we find that Noah did all that God commanded him to do. This is faith, there is no righteousness without faith.
Genesis 6:13-14 (KJV)
13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
14 Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.
Genesis 6:22 (KJV)
22 Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.
As we wind down for today I want to briefly mention or address two topics. First, where did the authority come from for God to destroy flesh, man and beast, upon the earth? God had given all authority in the earth to man who subsequently in sin submitted it to Satan. Sin of any kind is submission to Satan and rebellion against God. The authority came from Noah in his obedience. As an aside, the authority for coming of Christ and His work at Calvary, the Catching Away, the Tribulation, the Second Coming, the Millennial Reign, and the new heavens and earth are all authorized by men, the Prophets down through the ages of time. Noah’s obedience to build the Ark was a declaration of the coming cleansing of the earth. The second issue is: what about the statement from our Hebrew text that Noah was moved by fear. Seems to me we are commanded many times to fear not. The word translated fear means to perceive or receive a situation rightly according to The Complete Word Study Dictionary – New Testament. Noah’s actions were not out of cowering, or servile fear according to The Complete Word Study Dictionary – New Testament.
I hope that this teaching has been illuminating and has been received because only then can faith be built up. Until our next publication, I speak this Scriptural prayer for your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
2 Peter 1:2-4 (KJV)
2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
