POWER TO BECOME SONS OF GOD
Friday – September 7, 2018, Elul 27, 5778
Greetings and welcome back to this powerful Study of Holy Scripture. God is so good to us brother and sister. The Kingdom of God is a place where the benefits far outweigh the responsibilities but the responsibilities are non-negotiable. The principle responsibilities are to walk by faith, in love, led of the Holy Spirit. The more you know and declare from the Policy and Procedure Manuel (Word of God) the more faith we will have. When we get over ourselves, get focused on Jesus, the Word of God, and our God given mission (be selfless) we will walk in joy previously unimaginable. Yield to Holy Spirit and His leadership, He knows the will of God, He is God, He can see the big picture, He knows what the Kingdom needs, and He knows what will satisfy our heart better than we do. Now, let’s delve into our primary Bible text and see what the Lord has for us. This is not an academic exercise alone this is an exercise of diligence, and purposing to know Him more and be more like Him building our faith.
John 1:12-14 (KJV)
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Verse twelve (the number of God’s government) is quite something don’t you think! The sons of God led of Holy Spirit are the government of God in the earth in Christ Jesus. When we receive Him and believe on His name we are given power to become sons of God. Thank you, thank you, Jesus! Becoming a son of God is not automatic at salvation, in fact no one is a son of God at salvation, for that requires maturation. Sometimes language, terminology, can be a stumbling block so let me try to make something very clear. At salvation we join the children (immature) of God, there are those among the children who are male (sons) and those who are female (daughters). The term son of God is independent of physical gender. The term son denotes a mature person in the family who is capable of building the family name, taking full ownership and exercising Godly stewardship of Kingdom assets, and being a creative force, a supernatural force in the family, the body of Christ, the Kingdom of God.
Galatians 4:1-2 (KJV)
1 Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all;
2 But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father.
The Father is watching for responsible use of whatever He places in our hands. He is looking for diligence in our study of His Word, He is looking for a commitment to spend quality time with Him. By quality time I am not talking five or ten minutes while you are eating and heading out the door. He is looking for us to have a mindfulness of Him and His still small voice at all times. He is looking for real faith, real (agape) love, and obedience to Holy Spirit with a willing heart. Looking back at verse twelve in our primary text the word “power” here is referring to authority, the transliterated Greek word is exousia. According to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary this means privilege, capacity, competency, freedom, delegated influence, and jurisdiction. Isn’t this wonderful? He has given it all to us, will we step up, and be sons or will we whine in the nursery needing our diapers changed and wanting another bottle of milk, spitting out the meat?
John 1:13 (KJV)
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
We are born into the earth by the will of man, our mother and father, 100% of us no matter what you think about mom and dad. Being born into the Kingdom (born again) is not a sexual act between two people or the will of mankind in any other fashion. Only God can quicken our dead man, our dead spirit, when we believe on His name receiving Him as our Lord. As I close for today let me address this term being born again. All of mankind is created in the image and likeness of God with the capabilities of God in submission to Him. When Adam sinned so did Eve and their spirit man died instantly, due to the corruption of the mind (soul). This corruption came when they accepted and placed the word of the Serpent above that of God. The corruption of the mind brought corruption to the physical body, exchanging immortality for mortality on that Day of Sin and Death. The spirit of Adam came from God and was very much alive. The spirit of Eve came from Adam as did her flesh. When Adam and Eve sinned their spirit man died thus every person born from that day forward was born with a dead spirit.
Romans 5:12 (KJV)
12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
When a man and a woman join in the sexual act and produce a child not only does the child receive their physical body via the parents jointed DNA but they receive their spirit in the same way. As the body is a mixture of mom and dad so is the spirit or immaterial part of man. When we receive the Christ Jesus as Lord we are born again, that dead spirit is changed or born from death to life. I will pick up with verse fourteen on Monday Lord willing.
