PROMISE TO ABRAHAM – PART ONE

God is so very good! How privileged we are to be sons and daughters of the Most High God. With great privilege comes great responsibility. Whatever gets done in the Kingdom of God between now and the Catching Away will be done through us. God is not out there moving independent of His children, it would be illegal for Him to do so. He has given us authority in the earth which is why He has done nothing in the earth independent of a man’s voice since the creation of the man. Have you wondered about why there is very little written about Jesus following the Resurrection? Jesus did not have authority to do miracles independent of a man for He had been restored as God. From the womb of Mary until the Resurrection He was as other men and as such could do all that we read and more but not after. Well, let’s go ahead and review our primary text for this wonderful Bible Study from the Book of Hebrews.
Hebrews 6:12-15 (KJV)
12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
13 For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself,
14 Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.
15 And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.
Now the human writer of our text launches into an example that is at the very nexus of the redemption story. Abraham did not have a KJV Bible from the local Bible Bookstore but he honored the only living God and listened for and heeded His voice. I will now turn to that promise in Genesis.
Genesis 11:31 (KJV)
31 And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram’s wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.
It is not clear in Scripture why Terah, Abrams father, moved from
Ur of the Chaldees to Haran. As you may be able to see from the map, Haran is just outside the Promised Land. As we move into Genesis twelve the KJV makes it seem like God had previously spoken to Abram about moving to a land that He would show Abram, however other translations do not reflect a prior command but that the order from God to move came to Abram in Haran after the death of Terah his father. However, it happened that they moved from Ur of the Chaldees to Haran Scripture makes it clear that it was the Hand of God in a later conversation between God and Abram.
Genesis 15:7 (KJV)
7 And he said unto him, I am the LORD that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it.
Okay, let’s move to the initial promise made to Abram in Haran. This is a lengthy passage but context is important and we decided yesterday we would not be slothful, dull of hearing. We are building our faith in patience.
Genesis 12:1-5 (KJV)
1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
4 So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.
5 And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother’s son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.
As we start with Genesis 12:1 each of us might want to reflect on occurrences like this in our lives. God may not have asked us to move from where we live but perhaps to a different job, a different vocation, or even launch into fulltime ministry as part of the 5-Fold Ministry call and Anointing. Hopefully, you will recall that we are all called and Anointed for ministry but not all are called into the 5-Fold Ministry. The persons of the 5-Fold Ministry (Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor, and Teacher) are for the equipping of the saints for the work of the ministry (Ephesians 4:11-12). When I say full-time ministry, I am referring to a person who is devoted to ministry, in the Religion Pillar, Anointed to the 5-Fold Ministry. All of us are in full-time ministry in the Pillars God has assigned coupled with ministry. Our God directed vocation, God given assignment is intricate to our ministry. We are a source of light in the Pillars to which we are assigned. If God has Anointed a person to be a plumber however they rebel against that and become an electrician they will not operate in their full anointing and things will just not be right until they get in their place. The people who suffer are not just the disobedient rebellious person, but our family, the people to whom we were supposed to be ministering too and nourishing, and in the end people may be sick, die, and doomed to Hell as a result. I will pick up here tomorrow.

24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
