PREACH THE KINGDOM OF GOD AND THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

Greetings and welcome to Awake, Arise, and Triumph Ministries, an online Church. I will be continuing today with this foundational teaching on The Kingdom of God. Teaching and demonstrating the Kingdom of God was the central theme of Jesus’ Ministry in the earth. The responsibility to carry that on is now passed to the Church. This gospel does little good confined to the Church. I’m not talking about street Ministry so much as I’m talking about our lives being a manifestation of the goodness of our God. We don’t need and the world doesn’t need to see a Church with a religious brand of what they already have. Now let’s turn our attention to our topic and our anchor Scripture.
Matthew 6:33 (AMP)
33 But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides.
Jesus has been talking about the natural things of life that all of us need, that is saint and sinner alike. Jesus says that these things will flow to us if we do the first part of the verse. Jesus is talking about us seeking first the Kingdom of God and His way of doing with all of our hearts. He knows our heart; we’re not going to pull the wool over His eyes. Now, into our next passages concerning the Kingdom of God. In these passages we find the Apostle Paul in prison in Rome, and he has called for the Chief Jews to visit him.
Acts 28:22-24 (ESV)
22 But we desire to hear from you what your views are, for with regard to this sect we know that everywhere it is spoken against.”
23 When they had appointed a day for him, they came to him at his lodging in greater numbers. From morning till evening he expounded to them, testifying to the kingdom of God and trying to convince them about Jesus both from the Law of Moses and from the Prophets.
24 And some were convinced by what he said, but others disbelieved.
From verse 22 we can suspect that these Jews were already biased against what they called a sect. They considered Christianity an offshoot or division of Judaism at best and a cult at worst. Nonetheless they came to listen to Paul. He spoke at great length from the Law of Moses and the writings of the Prophets. Some believed it and others did not. Then the Apostle quoted from Isaiah.
Acts 28:25-28 (ESV)
25 And disagreeing among themselves, they departed after Paul had made one statement: “The Holy Spirit was right in saying to your fathers through Isaiah the prophet:
26 “‘Go to this people, and say, “You will indeed hear but never understand, and you will indeed see but never perceive.”
27 For this people’s heart has grown dull, and with their ears they can barely hear, and their eyes they have closed; lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them.’
28 Therefore let it be known to you that this salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles; they will listen.”
I’m guessing they found this quote from Isaiah greatly offensive when applied to them. It isn’t that they didn’t hear Paul’s words, they didn’t come with ears to hear. Then verse twenty-eight likely really got their goat for they consider gentiles dogs. While in prison in Rome awaiting an audience with Ceasar he had a very interesting living arrangement.
Acts 28:30-31 (ESV)
30 He lived there two whole years at his own expense, and welcomed all who came to him,
31 proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness and without hindrance.
He apparently was not free to come and go but could receive visitors at will in a place he rented/leased. During that two-year period of time, he taught primarily the Kingdom of God and about the Lord Jesus Christ without hindrance. Sounds a lot like he preached our anchor Scripture.
TAKE HOME:
- The Kingdom of God and God’s way of thinking, speaking, and doing were the central theme of Jesus’ Ministry and now the baton is passed to the Church.
- The central them of the Apostle Paul’s Ministry was the Kingdom of God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
- It is not recorded in Scripture if Paul actually appeared before Ceasar nor is his manner of death recorded.
Lord willing, I will resume right here next Saturday. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
