THE LAW MADE NOTHING PERFECT
Thursday – December 14, 2017

Let us ask ourselves are we hungry to the point of panting after the Word of God, streams of water for our souls? Now let’s pick-up our Bible Study from the wonderful Book of Hebrews. As you will recall the Author (capitalized due to divine origin) is speaking at great length about the superiority of Jesus to Angels, to Moses, and now to the Levitical priesthood. We Christians might think or say “that is a no brainer” however not so for the Hebrew. Angels, Moses, and the Levitical Priesthood were all held in very high regard. They were not clear that the Messiah would be the Son of God. You can see how integral this teaching must have been for the Hebrew (Jew) of two thousand years ago, however, there are powerful lessons for us, the Church, as well.
Hebrews 7:17-22 (KJV)
17 For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
18 For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof.
19 For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.
20 And inasmuch as not without an oath he was made priest:
21 (For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec:)
22 By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.
The “he” of verse seventeen (seventeen is the number of victory) is the one we call Father, Yahweh for the Old Testament saint. The coming of this priest after the order of Melchisedec was declared from ancient days.
Psalm 110:4 (KJV)
4 The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.
Melchizedek the type and shadow of Jesus and the Levitical priesthood that followed were all directing us to the need for a greater priest. A High Priest who could stand in intercession, advocating for us continually before God having made one sacrifice confirming The Blood Covenant. At our conception in the womb we are all eternal, those that know Jesus to eternal life, and those who do not know Jesus to eternal death and Hell. Now let’s move to verses eighteen and nineteen of our text from the God’s Word translation.
Hebrews 7:18-19 (GW)
18 The former requirements are rejected because they are weak and useless.
19 Moses’ Teachings couldn’t accomplish everything that God required. But we have something else that gives us greater confidence and allows us to approach God.
The former requirements being the sacrificial law. We no longer have to show up at Church with an animal to sacrifice. In the day when that was the requirement it did not expunge the sin but simply covered it until the Lamb of God could come and completely obliterate the sin separating them and later us from God. This is a wonderful thing my brothers and sisters.
Colossians 2:12-14 (KJV)
12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
Colossians 2:12 is not talking about water baptism but choosing the redemption that is in Christ Jesus and plunging into the Kingdom of God. When we did we were raised from the spiritual dead and were seated with Him and in Him in the Heavenly. Every charge the devil ever brought against us is gone, blotted out, it is taken out of the way, those past sins cannot hinder us in the Kingdom of God. We hinder ourselves by allowing the devil to remind us of our past and then by operating in self condemnation. The act of Jesus assisted by the Holy Spirit on the Cross, in Hell, in the Bosom of Abraham, His Resurrection and restoration to the right hand of the Father as God obliterated the works of the devil. Thank you, Jesus, I am free! I am not in bondage to the flesh and the law but free submitted to the Spirit of God. As we look at the nineteenth verse we must not jump to the conclusion that all of the teachings of Moses are null and void. Remember we are talking only about the teachings of Moses concerning the priesthood, a priesthood that has been replaced, and does not exist any longer because it was weak.
There is a new High Priest and new priests in the earth. This new High Priest is Jesus who is continuously representing us before our Heavenly Father. We are the new priests in the earth, every single person who is born again. Because we have the righteousness of God, purchased for us at Calvary we are continually with Jesus in the Most Holy Place in the presence of the Father there and the Holy Spirit here. In fact, here in the earth right now, those filled with the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues, are filled with the Godhead and the Father is pleased. As we finish for today meditate on the following verses, make them personal, first person.
Colossians 1:19 (KJV)
19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;
Colossians 2:9-10 (KJV)
9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
It pleases the Father that in you all fullness dwell. We are in Him and share in the fullness, the completeness purchased for all who will at Calvary. Communion with our Creator is restored in Christ Jesus and we are fully able again to function as sons.
Until our next publication, I speak blessing into your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Numbers 6:24-26 (GW)
24 The LORD will bless you and watch over you.
25 The LORD will smile on you and be kind to you.
26 The LORD will look on you with favor and give you peace.’
