WHOSE WORDS DO WE MAKE OUR OWN?

Welcome back dear saints and others to our study of The Trail of Blood from Heaven before the foundation of the world to the Garden of Eden, to Cain and Abel, to Noah, to Abraham, and now to Moses. I will be picking up once again with The Day of Atonement details which are a prophetic image of our redemption and the unblemished Lamb of God blotting out the sin of all who will receive eternally. Now, let’s plunge into our study.
THE FLESH, THE BLOOD, AND THE ROCK
Before I move on into a discussion of the blood of Jesus, I want to introduce a thought and discuss a topic that has always appeared hard in the Old Covenant. That topic is the stoning of persons for certain sins to remove sin from among the people, and I suspect act as a powerful deterrent. What was the purpose of the stoning? Certainly, there were many ways they could have put a person to death. Why did God choose stoning? It may be because what we have always viewed as exceptionally severe and cruel was in fact an act of mercy and a road of redemption for them.
Sin came to mankind by way of the flesh, the body and accepting another god. Of course, there was a process that went on in the mind that allowed the flesh to partake of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Our physical bodies can’t do anything our minds don’t give it permission to do. This is not the brain which is a physical organ and simply is the transmitter between our spirit and our body. The brain gets instructions from our mind, part of our soul, and then carries that out. Remember, there is a spiritual root to all physical manifestations.
Sin occurs when we go against our spirit man, our conscience, the still small voice of the Holy Spirit, and our knowledge of God. Sin is when we follow the words of another, the lusts of the unrenewed mind, and the desires of the flesh (body). Let’s review what happened in the Garden of Eden.
Genesis 3:6 (KJV)
6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
We see here clearly that the desires of her flesh (body) along with the words of the Serpent are running the show. She “saw that the tree was good for food” and “pleasant to the eyes” and desirable “to make one wise”. She took the words of the Serpent as permission and superior to God’s. The Apostle John confirms this for us.
1 John 2:16 (KJV)
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
There is no lust or pride in our Father. Therefore, when Elohim breathed the breath of life into us, we became a living soul; meaning we received our spirit and soul. We, in fact, received an eternal part of God Himself. We did not get lust or pride from our Father, God. Lust and pride are hallmarks of the devil. Paul writes to us that this sin in the flesh was taken out of the way by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, but it is clear that we must choose to dominate the flesh just as Adam had to make a choice (Romans 7:25, 8:3). The wonderful mercy and grace of God has put us in a different position than Adam. The sacrifice of Jesus (the Stone) took the Law of Sin and Death out of the way and the punishment of stoning. Sin is set aside forever, and we are continually being cleansed of all sin as long as we seek after righteousness.
We know that Jesus is THE STONE, THE ROCK.
1 Corinthians 10:4 (KJV)
4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. [2]
Every time we have Communion, we are reminded that Jesus’ body was broken for us, so that ours would not have to be broken.
1 Corinthians 11:24 (KJV)
24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.
TAKE HOME:
- Sin comes by way of the flesh and a mind contrary to God.
- We must put our flesh (body) and other words, another god, before Jehovah in order to sin.
- Jesus body was broken for us, a covenant of health and healing but also did away with the punishment of stoning.
Lord willing, I will resume right here tomorrow. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
