THEY UNDERSTOOD NOT – WHAT ABOUT ME
Wednesday – May 22, 2019, Iyar 17, 5779
Greetings precious and loved saints, loved by this Ministry and loved in an unfathomable way by our Lord and Savior and His Father. Welcome back to these teachings of The Truth from the Bible Book of John. The featured pictures this week will be of various outdoor scenes here in Maine. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text and read it aloud.
John 10:6-11 (KJV)
6 This parable spake Jesus unto them: but they understood not what things they were which he spake unto them.
7 Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.
8 All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.
9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
Isn’t the Word of God just awesome? If we will actually receive it, believe it, think it, say it, we will have a life of great achievements for the Kingdom of God. There will be many battles but we are equipped to win them all but only when we are snuggled right up next to the Father and walking out the Word and not our own agenda. The enemy will empty out his whole arsenal against us but it will not harm us if we know who we are in Christ Jesus and don’t get distracted by the storm. Don’t allow the storm inside keep it outside, if it is of the prince of this world it has no legal standing to enter. Legal standing to enter is unrepented sin.
Our text above tells us that they did not have a clue what Jesus was talking about. Of course, as you know from following this study, they didn’t have a clue almost all the time, they were filled with envy, darkness, and hatred of what they saw as a threat to their kingdom. I guess the question we might ask ourselves is, do we understand? I know before I was born again (saved) I saw the gospel as a threat to my lifestyle and the things I wanted to do (sin). What I did not understand was that yes when I saw the light and love of God, I would gladly let that go and that my loving Heavenly Father had far better things for me in the Kingdom. Our access to fun, enjoyment, outright hilarity, does not end at the Church door but really begins there. Let’s shift gears just for a moment and talk about the natural man, the carnal man, and the spiritual man. First the natural man.
1 Corinthians 2:14 (KJV)
14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
The natural man cannot receive of the Spirit for he/she has not connection to God, their spirit man remains dead and destined for Hell for they have not decided for Christ Jesus. The only message an unbeliever (unsaved – natural person) is equipped to hear and receive is the message of the need for salvation. This is the mercy of God to hear and the measure of faith to receive and act. On the other hand, the carnal man is saved (born again) but not following after the Spirit of God but the flesh. The flesh is the desires of our natural body and the unrenewed mind. Listen to the Apostle Paul in his letter to the Christians at Rome.
Romans 8:5-8 (KJV)
5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
Who do we suppose encourages us to have and exercise a carnal mind? The devils around and about all of us. What is our primary focus? Are we focused first on the things of the spirit and the will of God or are we focused on our own desires, natural lusts, things contrary to the Word of God? Just because it is not a sin like stealing or murder does not mean we are to do it. If it is not in the plan of God for us even though everyone may agree it is a “good” thing it is sin for us. In just a few verses we hear Jesus say the following.
John 10:10 (KJV)
10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
