THINGS SAID IN THE SYNAGOGUE
Thursday – January 31, 2019, Sh’vat 25, 5779

Greetings and welcome back to this stimulating Bible Study of the Book of John. God is so good to give us His Word, the light, so that we don’t stumble around in the dark, in ignorance. Just as ignorance or a lack of diligence can get one killed in the world system so can ignorance of spiritual law get one killed. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text reading it aloud as we prepare our hearts for todays study.
John 6:58-63 (KJV)
58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.
59 These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.
60 Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it?
61 When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?
62 What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?
63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
Jesus since verse twenty-six has been speaking in the synagogue in Capernaum, His home town upon entering ministry, and the location of His house. Before we move on, I would like to bring up a little aside which you may find interesting. I mentioned above that Jesus had a home, a house in Capernaum. We often hear it mentioned that Jesus was a carpenter like His supposed father Joseph. We might imagine that He (Jesus and His father) was the finest cabinet maker in all of Nazareth. I heard another minister not long ago point out that the use of the word ‘carpenter’ may be a little misleading in todays common vernacular. In that day it may have been referring to being more along the lines of being a mason since the homes were generally of stone. I suggest you take a look at this word ‘carpenter’ in the Hebrew. So, Jesus may have been a mason who assembled physical houses of stone. Combine this thought with the following Scripture.
1 Peter 2:5 (KJV)
5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
Wow, isn’t the Word of God just something!? Okay, now back to our primary lesson. Are we hearing any hard sayings in our Churches (synagogues)? Are we hearing things we don’t understand or don’t want to comply with and lead one to leave the Church as we see these disciples do in verse sixty-six? Jesus is telling them and us, you need to make the same commitment to me that I have will continue to make to you. Are we walking in the Covenant in an unworthy manner? Professing our love for Jesus, for the Father, but going our own way, not dead to self and alive to Him and His purposes. God assures us over and over that when we focus on the spiritual, on the Kingdom of God, on Him, on His heart’s desire for man, for a family, in the earth our physical lives will overflow with abundance. We are such a selfish unbelieving people that we are afraid (fear is sin) that our fleshly needs won’t be met if we focus on the spiritual yet Jesus made it plain where we are to focus. This is not to say we don’t do the needed physical things, we do for sure, but led of the Holy Spirit with supernatural results. Consider the following command from our Lord, the King of kings.
Matthew 6:33 (KJV)
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Is there anything ambiguous about this verse to anyone reading this teaching? Do we find any of the words like the word ‘first’ to be tricky at all? By the Spiritual gift ‘Word of Knowledge’ Jesus knew (within Himself) that the listeners that day were offended. Are we offended by the Truth we hear in Church, the call to be one with God not in profession only but in thought, word, and deed? Let’s take a look at the word ‘offence’ as I close for today.
(“scandalize”); from <G4625> (skandalon); to entrap, i.e. trip up (figurative stumble [transitive] or entice to sin, apostasy or displeasure): – (make to) offend. According to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary.
As we shall see in just a few verses many turned away from Jesus and walked no more with Him. Don’t be fooled, one can be in Church every Sunday going through the motions saying the right words but not walking with Jesus. They did not want to make the same commitment to Him He made to them. Keep in mind no one is called to lay down their physical life for Jesus, for the gospel. We are called to lay down our own ways for His however. Christians die around the world due to a lack of teaching concerning the divine protection of God.
Until our next publication, as a Bible Teacher and Prophetic Voice I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it by faith in Jesus name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
