THY WORD O LORD IS ABOVE ALL
Tuesday – September 5, 2017

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ. God is so very good to us, His children, His sons and daughters. We are the ones charged suppressing the curse and remaking the earth, the Kingdom of God, into a mirror image of Heaven. The featured photo is from the parking lot of Church on a recent Sunday morning. The body of water is the Kennebec River. The body of land you see predominately to the left is actually an island in the river. Now, welcome back to our Bible Study of the wonderful Book of Hebrews. We honor the Word of God above all other words. The motivations of our thoughts, words, and actions must be from the top shelf of our mind, the Word of God. The Word of God is the most powerful thing in existence whether it be spiritual or natural.
Psalm 138:1-5 (KJV)
1 I will praise thee with my whole heart: before the gods will I sing praise unto thee.
2 I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name. (Bold added by Dr. Wood)
3 In the day when I cried thou answeredst me, and strengthenedst me with strength in my soul.
4 All the kings of the earth shall praise thee, O LORD, when they hear the words of thy mouth.
5 Yea, they shall sing in the ways of the LORD: for great is the glory of the LORD.
This is a Psalm of David. Who are the “gods” David speaks of and who are the “kings” of the earth David makes reference to in this Psalm? I want you to put your right hand against the right side of your head and the left against the left side of your head and push gently towards the middle so your head does not explode. Both references (gods and kings) are to you and me brother and sister! (Also see Psalm 82)
John 10:34-35 (ESV)
34 Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I said, you are gods’?
35 If he called them gods to whom the word of God came—and Scripture cannot be broken—
Okay, if your heads are stabilized let’s return to our primary text in the wonderful Holy Book of Hebrews.
Hebrews 3:6-12 (KJV)
6 But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.
7 Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,
8 Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:
9 When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years.
10 Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways.
11 So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.)
12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.
You will notice that as we start with Hebrews 3:7 there is a parenthesis that extends all the way to the end of Hebrews 3:11. This passage is referring to the day in the wilderness when the newly reconstituted nation of Israel refused to enter the Promised Land. They refused to believe God. Just think of all the signs and wonders this people had seen. They had witnessed the ten plagues, they had witnessed the most powerful army in the world along with Pharaoh be swallowed up in the Red Sea say nothing of seeing the sea part so they could walk across on dry ground. They had seen the evidence of God Himself descend upon Mount Sinai and heard the audible voice of God giving the Law (Covenant) to Moses. They had seen the building of the Tabernacle and the evidence of the presence of God emanating over the Most Holy Place. And now, two years from the time they left Egypt they rebelled against God. Signs and wonders do not build faith, only the Word of God that we choose to believe and implement builds faith.
Romans 10:17 (KJV)
17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
I will pick-up right here tomorrow and we will look at some of the elements of their rebellion and determine if we see anyone we know in their story.
Until our next publication, I speak blessing into your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)
24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
