May we all be reminded to pray for the Church, the Ekklēsia. The Ekklēsia is not the building in which people gather, it is the people themselves. The called out ones, called out of the world into the wonderful Kingdom of God to accomplish the will of God. The building pictured is the St. John the Devine Anglican Church in Maple Ridge British Columbia, Canada. Now back to our text from the book of Ephesians.
Ephesians 1:9-11 (KJV)
9 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:
10 That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:
11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:
As we come to verse eleven we find that we have obtained an inheritance. It appears from the English translation that this is a past event but here again the tense is aorist and voice is passive meaning that we have had, have, and will continually have an inheritance, in place from the foundation of the world. Our inheritance was and is not time dependent. As you may know we are joint-heirs with Jesus.
Romans 8:15-17 (KJV)
15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
Being a child of God makes us an heir of God, and a joint-heir with Christ which is greatly different from being an heir of our earthly father and mother. Of course the scope of the wealth of God in both the physical and spiritual realm is beyond human measure but then you might think, “yeah, but there is going to be a couple billion of us dividing up the Kingdom (all things)”. The thing is this, God has infinite creative capacity and according to His will so do we. God is infinite so there is no possible shortage of spiritual substance. Spiritual substance gives rise to physical substance.
Galatians 4:6-7 (KJV)
6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
Hebrews 1:1-3 (KJV)
1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
Jesus was appointed of the Father to be heir of all things, and all the people of God, Old Testament, New Testament, and Jew are one in Christ. Since we are in Him, in Christ (Messiah, the Anointed One, and the Holy Spirit) we also are heir of an infinite Kingdom simultaneous with all other peoples. We are familiar with an estate having a finite value but not so in the Kingdom of God. How good is our God? This was in place, by the will of God, long before Adam set foot on the earth or you and I were a glint in our fathers’ eyes. In God’s mercy, patience, and faithfulness it is all being brought it all to pass, and always with the consent and help of a man (men/women). This is all in Christ because it took all that Christ represents to make all of the plan of God (Elohim) possible.
