WHAT ABOUT THE BREAD

Greetings dear children and sons of God and welcome back to our study of the wonderful Bible Book of John. Our God is so good to give us His Word. He does not intend; it is not His will, that we be in the dark (ignorant) about anything concerning the Kingdom of God. As you are well aware, our study of the Book of John is drawing to a close and I am sure the Lord still has some very important nuggets to share with us. Last week I spoke about putting God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) first. Do we in the body of Christ really understand this concept, this idea to its fullest extent? It is not a suggestion, it is a command!
Matthew 6:33 (KJV)
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
What does this mean to me, to you? Is He serious? Are we to put Him first, seek Him first in all things or are we to pretty much run the show and come to Him when it doesn’t matter to our carnal nature? We might find it useful to review yesterdays teaching which highlights multiple other Scriptures commanding that God be first, period. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text in the Book of John and read it aloud, yes, out loud.
John 21:12-14 (KJV)
12 Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord.
13 Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise.
14 This is now the third time that Jesus shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead.
Today I am going to focus on the “bread” mentioned in verse thirteen above and its connection with the fish. As we often do when studying the Word of God, we will look at the word, in this case “bread” and its first use. As you may have guessed we find this first use in the beginning.
Genesis 3:19 (KJV)
19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
Man has sinned (Genesis 3:6), Satan is now god of this world, and the curse is rampant, the blessing is lost. Before this man lived as God lived, but now with sin he is separated from God and is now His own provider. The sustenance (what sustains, necessary nourishment) for man’s physical body was of the earth and easily obtainable before the fall, that is to say without labor (sweat of the face). The sustenance of the spirit man (spirit and soul) has always been the Word of God (Bread of life). Now, with sin, man is separated from God, the spirit man is dead, and the soul (mind) is corrupted with the deceptions of the serpent. Man was not made to die physically or spiritually but now with sin we see that physical death is inevitable and the spirit man is already dead (separated from God due to sin). We know that God is speaking of the physical or natural part of man in the preceding Genesis reference for our spirit (soul and spirit) came from God and is spirit whereas our bodies were made by God from the dust of the earth (Genesis 2:7). Man, desperately needed a Redeemer, needed spiritual bread most of all to bring quickening (life) to the spirit man (reunite with God) and to redeem the body from destruction. Here comes life, spiritual and physical!
Genesis 14:18 (KJV)
18 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.
Here we see the Communion Table, the sacrifice of the Son of God for the first time in Scripture. The bread represents the body of Christ. His body will be broken so that ours can attain to immortality, His Blood is spilled so that our spirit man can attain to eternal life.
John 6:47-48 (KJV)
47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
48 I am that bread of life.
Dear ones, let’s partake of that bread of life receiving everlasting life immediately and an immortal body like that of Jesus at the Resurrection. Remember the bread represents the physical part of Jesus, the Word (Jesus before the womb of Mary) was (and is) God, and became flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:1, 14). Jesus, the Word, His Words give life physically and spiritually. Listen to Jesus.
John 6:63 (KJV)
63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
Matthew 26:26 (KJV)
26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.
Matthew 26:28 (KJV)
28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow. In the meantime, eat without limit of that Bread.
2 Chronicles 20:20b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Until our next publication, as your Bible Teacher and a Prophetic Voice in your life I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it, believe it, and speak over yourself and your family by faith in Jesus’ name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
