WHO IS WORKING?

Greetings dear brothers and sisters in Christ and welcome back to this illuminating Bible Study of the Book of John. I recently returned to Maine from a Texas vacation with my soon to be bride (featured on Friday) to meet family and friends. It was the most outstanding trip I can remember. Now, let’s turn our attention to our Bible Study by first reading our primary text aloud.
John 9:13-17 (KJV)
13 They brought to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind.
14 And it was the sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.
15 Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see.
16 Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.
17 They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet.
When we left off this study last Friday, we were at the crux of the problem for the Pharisees which was that work had been done on the Sabbath with the healing of this blind man. As you may recall this concept of ceasing from work was demonstrated in the account of this present creation.
Genesis 2:1-3 (KJV)
1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
This was then codified in the Ten Commandments.
Exodus 20:8-11 (KJV)
8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
It is important to recognize that the “work” being referred to is the usual employment or livelihood of the person. For example, if one was a carpenter it meant that they were to take the seventh day off or cease from that vocation but would not preclude all work like feeding the animals or yourself for that matter. Jesus makes that very point in the following passage. Many things get skewed to the extreme by government and religion. It is a control issue which is a demonic trait and not a Godly trait. Our Heavenly Father made us in His own image and likeness and gave us a freewill to determine our own future. What choices have I made, have you made? Have we made those choices on our own or in consultation with God? Are we trying to control people in our lives or are we choosing to love them free of exerting control or manipulation? Remember, Jesus has just told them that they are of their father, the devil. Who am I of, what about you? Let’s take a moment and listen to Jesus as I close for today.
Luke 14:1-6 (KJV)
1 And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath day, that they watched him.
2 And, behold, there was a certain man before him which had the dropsy.
3 And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day?
4 And they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go;
5 And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day?
6 And they could not answer him again to these things.
If it is okay to get the donkey or ox out of the ditch, an animal in distress how much more righteous would it be to come to the aid of a person, in the image and likeness of God, and bring them out of a condition of distress. Finally, exactly who is doing the work in the healing of this man? Jesus told us that He only said what the Father said, He only did what He saw the Father do, and the Father does the works.
John 14:10 (KJV)
10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.

24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
