YOU ARE NOT OF MY SHEEP
Wednesday – June 12, 2019, Sivan 9, 5779
Greetings dear saints of God and welcome back to this powerful Bible Study of the Book of John. The Lord is taking the cover off for us to peer into His will and ways. His will and His ways are not intended by God to be a secret hidden from His people. Whenever you hear people declaring that we can’t know the ways of God cast that down, we can not only know the ways of God but walk in His ways as well. Not only are His ways to be our ways but His thoughts are to be our thoughts, and His Word are to be our words. We have the mind of Christ dear ones. The difference between knowing His ways and not knowing His ways is lack of fellowship with Him, failure to study, and a lack of willingness to take responsibility for our thoughts, words, and ways. Now let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text and read it aloud.
John 10:24-27 (KJV)
24 Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly.
25 Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me.
26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
As we move forward in our study to verse twenty-six, we find Jesus telling the assembled Jews that they are not His sheep. They have a form of godliness without power, they are steeped in the traditions of men which has facilitated their power over the people. As we look at verse twenty-seven, we see that if they were His sheep, they would hear His voice, He would know them, and they would follow Him. They struck out on all three counts. These Jews have access to abundant evidence that Jesus is in fact the Messiah but they are either ignoring it, didn’t learn those Scriptures in the first place (which is unlikely), or He is just not what they were expecting and was definitely not one of them. As a prophetic aside, the final move of God will be through a willing people before the catching away of the Church and that time will mirror the time of Jesus. The lynch pin to being in the sheepfold, to hearing His voice, being known of Him, and following Him is to believe. We must believe upon Him and when we do, we will believe His Words. It is worthwhile to meditate the following Scriptures.
John 3:18 (KJV)
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Romans 10:8-10 (KJV)
8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Notice that we hear first, then we make a decision to believe or not. If we chose to believe what was heard (word of faith) and declare Jesus Lord we are saved. This process brings us to the place of believing on the name, Jesus. There is no such thing as believing on Jesus and not believing the Word or believing the Word but not on Jesus. They are one and the same, inseparable. It is important to recognize that when we are making Jesus Lord of our life, we are declaring that the Word has first place in our lives. That means that the Word of God is the foundation, the guide, the highest authority in our life. When we do some things according to Scripture (the Word) and other things according to the world, we will get the worlds results. That is what the command to not mix the knowledge of good and evil is all about in the creation account. Look where that landed us. As I close for today let us move forward in our text to the twenty-eighth verse.
John 10:26-28 (KJV)
26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
Wow, those who believe the Word, those who receive the Word and believe the Word and act upon the Word (Jesus) will be given eternal life. Let me make one thing very clear, every person conceived will have an eternal existence, and eternal consciousness. The word ‘life’ in our text as to do with the life of God and life like God experiences life in Heaven. Those who do not believe upon Jesus will have eternal death, which is eternity in Hell, and eternal separation from God and the kind of life God and the saved experience in Heaven. The extraordinary high quality of the life of God and the saints in Heaven and elsewhere throughout the new heaven and new earth is beyond the capacity of human language presently. In the same way the eternal death of those who did not receive Jesus, the Word of God, and the awful existence they will experience eternally is also beyond the capacity of human language presently. The Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow.

24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
