THE GREATER THINGS – PART FORTY-TWO

Greetings precious saints of God and pre-saints of God. Welcome back to this Sunday teaching blog. Please take a moment to share this teaching as widely as possible. Today my sweet and wonderful wife is off to Texas with our two kitties. She is traveling with granddaughter to make the handling of the kitties easier and so she is not alone. Before you dive into this study, I want to warn each one that this is a hard teaching. We are exploring the “greater works” Jesus commanded and we find the basis for in the Eden Mandate, God’s original seven commands.
John 14:12 (KJV)
12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
This is not something that is optional for the sons of God, it is a command and failure to engage is sin. Does the body of Christ at large know this? When did you last hear this taught at your local Church House? A sin committed in ignorance (didn’t know) is not excused, it has an impact, but not to the extent of a sin with knowledge. That is to say, one knows they are sinning and they do it anyway. Look at the following Scripture.
Numbers 15:27 (KJV)
27 And if any soul sin through ignorance, then he shall bring a she goat of the first year for a sin offering.
God and how He views sin did not change between the Old and New Testaments. Sin today just as before the Cross has consequences whether done in ignorance or with knowledge. Back to sin committed in ignorance (without knowledge they were sinning). When the person was told or learned they were sinning this was the penalty. They were required to confess the sin, and bring an animal sacrifice to atone for the sin to the Priest. However, look at the punishment for the one who sins presumptuously, willfully, with knowledge.
Numbers 15:30-31 (KJV)
30 But the soul that doeth ought presumptuously, whether he be born in the land, or a stranger, the same reproacheth the LORD; and that soul shall be cut off from among his people.
31 Because he hath despised the word of the LORD, and hath broken his commandment, that soul shall utterly be cut off; his iniquity shall be upon him.
Later this same passage discusses a man found gathering sticks on the Sabbath and his punishment was stoning until dead. Aren’t you glad we have the Blood of Jesus?
1 John 1:9 (KJV)
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
We see in the preceding verse there is a time of grace for the child of God to confess their sin and be cleansed. I would however caution us all not to be too laissez-faire, nonchalant, about ongoing unrepented sin. If it was worthy of death under the Old Covenant, and God does not change, is it now not worthy of death (physical and spiritual)? The following passage which is written to Christians suggests there is a point at which continued willful sin crosses a line of no return.
Hebrews 10:26-31 (KJV)
26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
28 He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.
31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
You will remember there was a situation at Corinth where a man was fornicating with his father’s wife. The man and woman were unrepentant and did not change their arrangement. The following is the advice which the Apostle Paul gave the leaders of that Church.
1 Corinthians 5:5 (KJV)
5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
This verse suggests to me that it is better, merciful, for the willful unrepentant person to be turned over to Satan who will kill them before they cross the line of being eternally lost. This is grace in action. Leaving the know sin in the Church unaddressed allows the willful unrepentant sinner time to harden their heart and pass from life unto death. Pass from a place where they may choose repentance, cleansing by the Blood of the Lamb and a place where they chose not to repent. A hard heart and a stiff neck. As I end for this week, I want to bring to our memories what happened to the children of Israel, all God’s children, after leaving Egypt and refusing to enter the Promised Land. They all died in the wilderness. Did they go into the Bosom of Abraham or Hell? May each one of us be very careful not to tread the Blood of Jesus underfoot by willfully ignoring any command of God.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next week.
2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Until our next publication, as a Bible Teacher and Prophetic Voice I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it, believe it, and speak over yourself and your family by faith in Jesus’ name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
