FROM THE PROPHETS CHAMBER – WEEK NINETEEN
WHAT DOTH THE LORD REQUIRE

Micah 6:8 (KJV)
8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
Greetings dear and precious saints of God and welcome back to the Prophets Chamber. God is so good sons and daughters of God. Please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible to extend the reach of the Truth. As I was praying in my “secret place”, fellowshipping with the Lord, I asked what He would like me to write about today for the Prophets Chamber. The verse above is what He gave me and we will explore this in some detail. As we look at the context of our text, once again, God is talking to a backsliding people. As we read about the peoples of the Old Testament, we see this recurring cycle. What about today? Consider the following passage.
Micah 6:2-4 (KJV)
2 Hear ye, O mountains, the LORD’S controversy, and ye strong foundations of the earth: for the LORD hath a controversy with his people, and he will plead with Israel.
3 O my people, what have I done unto thee? and wherein have I wearied thee? testify against me.
4 For I brought thee up out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed thee out of the house of servants; and I sent before thee Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.
Put the Church in this passage. He has redeemed us out of darkness and a path to Hell to give us eternal life and Heaven. Jesus said His yoke was easy and His burden light. If it’s not easy and it’s not light, it isn’t God!
Matthew 11:30 (KJV)
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Looking back at Micah 6:8 we see the Lord telling them and us that they and we are not doing justly, loving mercy, or walking humbly with our God.
Micah 6:8 (KJV)
8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
If God required these things of those people, has He changed and does not require any of this from us? This is not a trick question. God has not changed and neither have His requirements. We have a leg up since Calvary, the Resurrection, and the return of the Holy Spirit for all peoples. We are not excused from any of His requirements but we do have a Helper. Let’s look at the first instruction which is “to do justly”. This word is the transliterated Hebrew word mishpāṭ meaning to judge, pronounce sentence (for or against), by implication to vindicate or punish, and by extension to govern, according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. This word was first used in the following verse (first use).
Genesis 18:19 (KJV)
19 For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.
The word “justice” in this verse is most commonly translated as righteousness. The word “judgment” is our target word. So, the Lord is saying that Abraham will command his household and children in the way of the Lord, teach the way of righteousness, and do proper judgments. Abraham made the Hebrews eleven Hall of Faith, what about you and me? The Messiah came through Abraham’s obedience and faith, He is the father of us all. What do we suppose the Lord can bring through you and me by our obedience, faith, and doing justly? Someone might pipe up and say, “oh, Dr. Wood we aren’t supposed to judge”. Really? We judge frequently in natural things, like our children, employees, and others over whom we may have authority. The question is this. Do we temper those natural judgments with mercy and humility? Concerning spiritual matters, we must be most cautious. We are to judge all matters as it concerns ourselves. However, with regard to others and the spiritual consequences (like Heaven or Hell) of any matter, that is to be left to God who knows the heart.
Lord willing, I will pick up this study of Micah 6:8 next Saturday.
2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Until our next publication, as your Bible Teacher and a Prophetic Voice in your life I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it, believe it, and speak over yourself and your family by faith in Jesus’ name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
