THE LORD REVEALED

Greeting dear and precious saints and welcome back to our empowering Bible Study of the wonderful Bible Book of Isaiah. How good is our God? He is nothing but good, the other guy, the other kingdom not so. As we are moving forward, please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you to expand our reach with the Truth. Thank you so much for sharing, you have a vital role with others in this Ministry, in furthering the Kingdom of God. The featured picture today is of a Church in Illinois and it is to remind us “to pray for all God’s holy people”.
Ephesians 6:18 (NJB)
18 In all your prayer and entreaty keep praying in the Spirit on every possible occasion. Never get tired of staying awake to pray for all God’s holy people,
Are we discharging this responsibility with diligence and fervor or just mumbling through in a half-hearted fashion?
James 5:16 (HCSB)
16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The urgent request of a righteous person is very powerful in its effect.
Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text continuing to read out loud.
Isaiah 40:3-8 (KJV)
3 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:
5 And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
6 The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field:
7 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.
8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.
As you will recall we are focused on verse five. By the way the Bible number five has to do with the grace and goodness of God. Wow! Grace came for salvation, full redemption for mankind came by the sacrifice and resurrection of Christ Jesus, and that is the ultimate never to be topped goodness of God. Now, let’s turn our attention back to the book of Exodus and the request of Moses to see the glory of God, and God consented to show him His goodness.
Exodus 33:17-23 (KJV)
17 And the LORD said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name.
18 And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory.
19 And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.
20 And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.
21 And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock:
22 And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by:
23 And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.
Just a very brief comment about verse nineteen. It would appear with a surface reading, ignoring the rest of Scripture and the character of God, that God picks and chooses in an unjust fashion whom He will be gracious to and whom He will show mercy to. Is that the God you know? God is gracious and merciful to all whom He can be gracious and merciful which are those seeking Him with their whole heart and walking in His ways. The “rock” is Jesus, it is also the Word for Jesus is the Word. We use the term commonly that we are standing upon the Word. The place by me is the right hand of the Father. See verse twenty-two we are in the rock and covered by the hand of God which is the Holy Spirit. It doesn’t get any better than this folks! The Father is showing Moses the coming Messiah and our place in Him, our restoration in the time to come. This is very much like what He showed Abraham in Genesis chapter 22 at the foot of Mount Moriah. Lord willing, I will pick up and perhaps finish this section of Scripture tomorrow.
