Greetings dear friends and saints of God and welcome back to this engaging study of the Bible Book of Isaiah. If you are not a saint become one right now, believe in your heart that the Father raised Jesus from the dead and confess with your mouth that He is Lord (one of highest authority in ALL arenas of your life). Please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you for sharing. The featured picture today is of a beautiful wooded scene in Mount Vernon, Maine.
Now, let’s turn our attention, continuing to read out loud, to our primary Bible text in the wonderful Book of Isaiah. Today the text is presented in the English Standard Version. This version of the Bible is a word for word translation, published in 2001, at an 8th grade reading level. For your information Rose Publishing produces many wonderful tools and among them is a pamphlet titled “Bible Translations Comparison”.
Isaiah 47:8-11 (ESV)
8 Now therefore hear this, you lover of pleasures, who sit securely, who say in your heart, “I am, and there is no one besides me; I shall not sit as a widow or know the loss of children”:
9 These two things shall come to you in a moment, in one day; the loss of children and widowhood shall come upon you in full measure, in spite of your many sorceries and the great power of your enchantments.
10 You felt secure in your wickedness, you said, “No one sees me”; your wisdom and your knowledge led you astray, and you said in your heart, “I am, and there is no one besides me.”
11 But evil shall come upon you, which you will not know how to charm away; disaster shall fall upon you, for which you will not be able to atone; and ruin shall come upon you suddenly, of which you know nothing.
As we fix our gaze on verse nine be reminded that this person is thinking that their husband will not die nor any of their children. This is pride and being a god unto oneself. Yet, the Lord says that both of these things not only may but shall come upon the person in a moment. Many have the idea that perhaps there is a god and perhaps there is a devil but they have nothing to do with me, it is all about me. Oh, how close sudden destruction is to that one. Oh, how foolish. Here is the Godly alternative.
Proverbs 3:1-10 (KJV)
1 My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:
2 For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.
3 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:
4 So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.
5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
8 It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.
9 Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:
10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.
This is for sure a more excellent way than thinking we are a god unto ourselves and there is none other.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow.

2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (KJV)
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
