TRAIL OF BLOOD
Wednesday – May 24, 2017

Well, glory to God, O He is so good. His goodness is poured out upon us bountifully. It is my hope that each reader (especially those who diligently study) of this Bible Study will meditate upon the ten (ten is the number of our responsibility) major components of blood covenant. By the way, these ten components are applicable in our marriages as well. Our focus in the discharge of the various components of any covenant is to further, elevate, and honor the one with whom we are in covenant.
Let’s continue to look at the trail of blood from the Garden to the Throne or Mercy Seat of Heaven. When man sinned in the Garden spiritual death ensued instantly, they had chosen to corrupt their minds with the high place (doctrine of the devil) presented by the serpent, and the curse was given a legal place displacing The Blessing. In this milieu the physical body started to feel the first pangs of corruption that would lead to physical death. However, God in His great foresight and mercy had a plan to redeem His man. The implementation of this plan would be very costly and as it turns out take a considerable length of time. And so the trail of blood began.
Genesis 3:21 (KJV)
21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.
I do not know what Adam and Eve wore for clothing, I seriously doubt that it was the cave man look we see depicted all too often. When Eve, then Adam sinned they died spiritually instantly, were separated from God instantly and therefore the life of their spirit man (soul) was gone and the overflow was gone (exterior anointing). Notice that the animal skin covering which the LORD God provided was a coat, and a coat covers other clothing. Then we notice the conjunctive ‘and’ which means that the words to follow are added to the preceding words. God made a coat, some translations say tunic, the garb of kings and priests, for them to wear. And, the Scripture says that He clothed them which means to wrap about. He compassed them about, hedged in like Job, so long as they observed this first exercise, evidence of blood covenant (Old Testament), with this sinful people until a more permanent situation could be arranged (New Testament). The exercise of blood covenant means the shedding of innocent blood (in this case innocent animal blood) coupled with obedience to the terms of the covenant. Before the Cross the innocent blood came from innocent animals, generally lambs, rams, or bullocks, without spot or blemish. However this sacrifice was good for only one year and had to be repeated (Day of Atonement). There had to be the shedding of innocent blood for the remission of sin. That is why the sacrifice of Cain was not accepted, there is no blood in vegetables.
I believe I need to introduce a little clarification here concerning the seven Feasts of the Lord which has four in the spring and three in the fall. Passover is the first of the four spring feasts and is prophetic of the coming Messiah (Jesus) providing for the redemption of all. It is of note that even at the first Passover when God provided for their release from the bondage of Pharaoh (sin/devil) that a mixed multitude came out (not just Jews-Exodus 12:38). The Blood of the Passover, the Blood of Jesus is for all. In the fall there are three Feasts of the Lord and Yom Kippur or Day of Atonement is one of these and is prophetic of the Second Coming (not Rapture) of Christ and it is the time when the Jewish remnant (following the carnage of the Tribulation [justice for a rebellious people]) will recognize Jesus as Messiah (Savior and Lord) and be saved. It is on the Day of Atonement that the High Priest entered the Most Holy Place with the innocent blood of animals for his own sins and those of the people. Passover is honored annually (to this day) by the Jewish people and before the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem in 70 AD involved the sacrifice of an innocent lamb. Passover is the day that Jesus went to the Cross and shed His innocent Blood and yielded His life spirit and physical so that we might live again.
The Blood Covenant, the New Testament, is first introduced when God found a man with whom He could make this covenant. God could not just decree a New Covenant legally, for He had given authority in the earth to mankind. He needed to get at least one man involved and then Messiah and a permanent solution and restoration would be accomplished.
Genesis 12:1-3 (KJV)
1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
Abram had to come out from among them, his heathen roots into a new country, just as we must come out from among them (world). Jesus pointed out that we are in the world but not of the world. We operate in an altogether superior Covenant. God is starting the conversation, the Covenant, to make the Jewish people great but also this Covenant would bring The Blessing and this would be for all peoples (“all families of the earth be blessed”). Next we find The Father, The Word (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit entering into Covenant with Abram with the use of surrogate blood for man and God.
Genesis 15:17-18 (KJV)
17 And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces.
18 In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:
The word ‘LORD’ here is Jehovah, the self-existent eternal One, and the Father. The ‘smoking furnace’ is the Holy Spirit (commonly seen in Scripture as a fire or smoke). The ‘burning lamp’ is the Word or Jesus (Revelation 21:23). Now let us fast forward to the wonderful culmination of it all.
Galatians 3:8 (KJV)
8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.
Galatians 3:13-14 (KJV)
13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
Galatians 3:26-29 (KJV)
26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
29 And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Let’s just marinate in the wonder of these Scriptures. I am hopeful that you all understand that I have only touched on this particular topic of Blood Covenant and its’ origin here and there to give an overview as we dive into the Book of Hebrews.
Until our next publication, I speak blessing into your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)
24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
