O THE BLOOD
Tuesday – May 23, 2017

Today I will continue our study of The Blood Covenant before we dive into the Book of Hebrews. First, as usual on Tuesday, let me remind us all to pray for our nation, and our governments at every level. I have pictured The Statue of Liberty on Liberty Island in New York Harbor as a symbol of the freedoms offered by these United States and a reminder of the freedom we have from bondage in Christ Jesus.
The purpose of this mini-study on Blood Covenant is to provide context for much of what is to follow from the Book of Hebrews. Of course, much of this will be repeated but I have found I need to hear things more than once and the more I hear the more insight I tend to gain on that information and how it integrates into what I already know (or think I know). Sometimes new information does not integrate and challenges our working paradigm. Our challenge is to discern whether the new information is correct and we need to find the false in our prior thinking or perhaps the new information is false and must be discarded or certainly not given a position higher than the Word of God.
2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Bible love is based on and subject to the blood covenant that started in Genesis and culminated at Calvary. Bible love between natural persons does not function based on the attitudes, behaviors or the actions of the persons who are the object of our love. There is no place for emotion in Bible love only our will to act on the knowledge or our obligations in this Blood Covenant from which we benefit and in which we participate. Biblical love is selfless, is the Word of God in action, and is regulated by the obligations of the Blood Covenant.
There is no covenant stronger than a Blood Covenant. I capitalize Blood Covenant because one party to the covenant is God. You will quickly see that the definition of love which God gave me some years ago and the Blood Covenant are consistent with and augment the expanded revelation of love which God is giving to the body of Christ. Our exercise of Bible love requires diligence in thought, words, and actions concerning God and those about us. I will now present ten vital points or components of blood covenants in general and specifically of The Blood Covenant. Agapē, the God originating love is covenant love, specifically Blood Covenant love. Love will bring about the performance of the Blood Covenant which is sealed by the sinless blood of Jesus. The following ten points I am about to share were abstracted from E. W. Kenyon’s book titled, “The Blood Covenant”, however I doubt any will have a problem matching these points with Scripture.
- In a blood covenant a weaker party covenants with a stronger and that is certainly the case with us and God (Matthew 26:28).
- The blood covenant establishes equality between the parties. Scripture says that we are the sons of God (1 John 3:1). God called Abraham His friend (James 2:23).
- The blood covenant is perpetual or eternal and so is God’s covenant with the Church and with Israel (Genesis 9:16, Hebrews 13:20).
- This blood covenant is indissoluble, unbreakable. The Word of God stands no matter the actions of a person (John 10:35). For the flesh and the unrenewed mind the fact that the Blood Covenant is immutable is at times very inconvenient but at the same time if we will just keep marching it is also an impenetrable defense.
- The blood covenant is honored in succeeding generations. Over and over in Scripture we see God honoring His covenant, for example, with David and his descendants (1 Kings 15:4).
- Breaking the blood covenant leads to death, Scripture says that the wages of sin (breaking covenant) is death (Romans 6:23).
- Blood covenant gives equal access to assets between the parties. We surely got the best part of this deal by far. God calls us possessors of Heaven and earth and joint-heirs with Christ Jesus who is heir of all. (Galatians 4:7)
- The blood covenant provides for reciprocal (give in return) actions. Because Abraham was willing to sacrifice his son Isaac then the Father had to be willing to sacrifice His son, Jesus (The Word before the womb of Mary) (Genesis 22:12).
- Blood covenant provides for mutual defense. By our being obedient to the Word of God we provide for His defense which is coincidental with our own (Hebrews 10:13).
- This blood covenant requires a respect between the parties. (1 Samuel 2:30b)
The Blood Covenant is the foundation and the guidelines for our recognition and access to Scriptural love, the very love of God Himself, even into His presence (Hebrews 10:19). One essential point about this Blood Covenant, and this love, is that for it to have full force one must be dead to self. Just as Jesus said in the Garden of Gethsemane to the Father, not my will but yours be done (Luke 22:42).
Hebrews 9:17 (KJV)
17 For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.
This love, Bible love, agapeo originated with the Father and can only be exercised by God, and the sons and daughters of God. This love is a selfless focus on God and secondarily our fellow man. Be mindful that God has a selfless focus on us. We must be constantly mindful of our obligations to God and our fellow man under the Blood Covenant. This Blood Covenant with God requires our absolute obedience to the Word of God and His obedience to His own Words. As we do the Word, our faith will not fail, His faith will not fail, and we have the victory.
Until our next publication, I speak blessing into your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)
24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
