UNDER HIS FEET AND OTHER DETAILS

Greetings and blessing from Dr. and Mrs. Wood to our partners and friends. Thank you for returning to our Bible Study from the Book of Hebrews. God is so good. We, the Church, are to pray (decree) for Israel and bless (empower) Israel. No Israel, no Church, Jesus came because of the faith of Abraham, who according to Scripture is the father of us all (Jew and Christian alike). We cannot remain silent before God, before the Church, or before the world concerning our support of Israel. The picture above is of the Eastern Gate of Jerusalem.
Isaiah 62:1 (KJV)
1 For Zion’s sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest, until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burneth.
Now let’s return to our primary text in Hebrews.
Hebrews 2:5-9 (KJV)
5 For unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak.
6 But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man, that thou visitest him?
7 Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands:
8 Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him.
9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.
We have spent quite a bit of time examining the preceding passage which in part is a quotation from Psalm eight. Today we will go in a little different direction focusing on verse eight. This is an interesting and illuminating verse. It is made clear that ALL things (words-named spiritual and physical realities) are in subjection under His feet, there is nothing that is not put under Him yet we can plainly see that not all things are put under Him. Whose fault is that all things are not yet put under Him? Is it His fault? Is it our fault? I am going to go with US.
In a natural body, the head and the body are a unified whole, in fact the head would be considered as much a part of the body as the body a part of the head. To function they are inseparable. Christ is the head of the Church; the Church is the body of Christ. The head can give the body orders all day long but if the body ignores the orders nothing happens, in fact things may go from bad to worse. Isn’t it interesting that the one who knows almost nothing in comparison to the Head wants to call the shots? Is it any wonder that God refers to His people as a stiff-necked people from time to time? Does that clarify why this thing is dragging on and all things are not under His (Jesus) feet?
The Church is the bride of Christ making Christ the bridegroom. In the beginning the Father instructed that the husband and the wife were to be one, to be one flesh (one body) with one message functioning as one. Let’s examine this topic of all in subjection under Him (Jesus and therefore us) from a little different angle in a different text.
1 Corinthians 15:20-28 (KJV)
20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.
21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.
22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming.
24 Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.
25 For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.
26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
27 For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him.
28 And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.
Eventually our focus will be verse twenty-seven the number for preaching the gospel. Perhaps the preaching of the gospel and watching God confirm the gospel (Word) is the secret to bringing all things under His feet which is under our feet. Keep in mind the simple Truth which is that if it applies to Him it applies to us except for His functions as God and as our sacrifice. Let’s start at the top of the preceding passage finding that Christ was the first risen from the dead, a firstfruits of them that slept or were dead. We know that people rose from the physical dead before Jesus came out of the grave therefore we are not talking principally about that but that He was the first to rise from spiritual death to life (eternal life). Death (spiritual then physical) came by way of man’s sin in the Garden. Now, life, resurrection, eternal life (first spiritual then physical) is come by way of the death of a sinless man.
Adam’s spirit and soul (both spirit – God is a spirit) were of God (Elohim), his body came from the dust of the earth and the breath of life (Holy Spirit) is that same Quickening Spirit we receive at salvation. Eve’s physical and spiritual body came from Adam just as our children’s spiritual and physical bodies come from us, the parents. When our child accepts Jesus as Lord the Quickening Spirit (breath of Life) makes His abode with them and they become a living soul. The making of her (Eve’s) physical body was the first adult stem cell usage. The breath of life Adam received of God (Genesis 2:7) was transmitted to Eve. This breath of life (Holy Spirit) was common to all who lived on the earth before sin.
When Adam and Eve sinned the breath of life departed and they and all who inhabited the earth were left with a soul without life. They became dead souls. Let’s skip forward to today. When a man and a woman have a child not only have they created an all new physical person by the union of the DNA in their sperm and ova but they have created an all new spiritual person by the union of their souls. Since the Cross, in order to be a living soul, one must accept (make a conscious informed choice) Christ as Lord, as Savior. So, even if one or both parents are born-again with the breath of life (Holy Spirit) the resultant child is not born-again with a living soul (does not have the breath of life) until that new person makes the choice (we are free-will self-determining creations) to be in Him (Christ Jesus). The breath of life is the quickening Spirit, the Holy Spirit. I will pick-up with 1 Corinthians 15:24 tomorrow.
Until our next publication, I speak blessing into your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)
24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
