MORE LAYING ON OF HANDS
Tuesday – October 24, 2017

We cannot minimize the importance or overstate the importance of the laying on of hands. As I am sure that you have noticed that the flow of power or empowerment is always from the greater to the lesser (the one in need). For example, the children of Israel, the woman with the issue of blood, and the sinner. Okay, now let us delve right back into this study of the doctrine of the laying on of hands by reviewing our primary text.
Hebrews 6:1-3 (KJV)
1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
3 And this will we do, if God permit.
As with most things there are more than one avenue to cure any particular issue and that is determined and led of God. Hopefully, all of you can think of instances where people were healed and no one laid hands on them. One would be Naaman in 2 Kings chapter five under the Old blood Covenant (he was not even under that covenant) when Elisha’s messenger told him to dip in the Jordan River seven times. Or, perhaps you thought of the Syrophoenician woman who besought Jesus to cast the devil out of her daughter (not present) and it was done (Mark 7:30). Hopefully, we can all see that obedience, perseverance, and faith are fundamental in receiving of God.
The laying on of hands is common when people are being ordained for the various works of the ministry. Let’s take a look at an example in the Old blood Covenant and under the New Blood Covenant.
Numbers 27:18-20 (KJV)
18 And the LORD said unto Moses, Take thee Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and lay thine hand upon him;
19 And set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation; and give him a charge in their sight.
20 And thou shalt put some of thine honour upon him, that all the congregation of the children of Israel may be obedient.
Acts 13:2-3 (KJV)
2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.
3 And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.
In both cases there is an increased anointing (Blessing) released upon those being ordained for the tasks which lay before them. There is a saying new level new devil, well here it is new level requires a new level of anointing. Now a couple more examples of healings with the laying on of hands. Healings can run the gambit from oppressive devils, demon possession, the maimed, and those with other sickness and disease.
Mark 6:4-6 (KJV)
4 But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.
5 And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.
6 And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.
In the preceding passage Jesus is in His hometown and the healings were few due to unbelief. It is not crystal clear if He laid hands on some that were not healed but I think the balance of Scripture would preclude a prayer failure for Jesus. If we are led of the Spirit 100% of the time as was Jesus neither will we have prayer failures. Prayer failure is common place in the Church today. Perhaps you have witnessed a situation where the Pastor, various leaders or a self-ordained random group of people will gather about a person and pray from them with no regard for the leadership of the Spirit of God. This is a tradition of men and failure is far and away the most common result. The argument is that God always wants to heal and that is correct however not everyone has the expectation or faith to receive healing. Need is not the criteria by which one is healed. Need does not bring the manifestation of God into our lives, faith in God is always the lynchpin. Faith and love are the power twins, remember faith works or is powered by love and love at its core is obedience to the Word of God.
John 14:21 (KJV)
21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
The people did not honor Jesus that day because He was from that place. They did not honor, value, the righteous man, the prophet, the healer, and they did not get healed. Consider the following passage as we finish for today.
Luke 4:39-40 (KJV)
39 And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them.
40 Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.
Here we see an example of Jesus not laying hands (He did that frequently) on the sick person put speaking not to the sick person but to the illness. We also see an example of where He laid His hands (Anointed) on a large number and they were all healed, we can conclude that they all had faith, they were ready to receive.
Until our next publication, I speak blessing into your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)
24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
