THE TABERNACLE
Thursday – January 4, 2018

Welcome back to our wonderful Bible Study from the Book of Hebrews. First let’s review our primary text.
Hebrews 9:1-7 (KJV)
1 Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary.
2 For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein was the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary.
3 And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all;
4 Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant;
5 And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we cannot now speak particularly.
6 Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God.
7 But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:
Yesterday we looked at some length at the general configuration of the Tabernacle and the Tabernacle Tent. This is a very interesting and instructive study and has consumed many books. Within the Holy Place there were three pieces of furniture and they are the Golden Lampstand, the Altar of Incense, and the Table of Showbread. Our text from Hebrews refers to this partitioned area as the sanctuary. You will notice a discrepancy between the Old Testament accounts when God gave Moses instruction and showed Moses the pattern in the Mount. That discrepancy is that in the Book of Hebrews text it appears that the Altar of Incense is in the Most Holy Place when it is always in the Holy Place elsewhere in Scripture being a part of the daily ministry by the Levitical priests. Part of the resolution to this apparent discrepancy may be by the use of the word “censer” in Hebrews 9:4 rather than Altar of Incense.

The object in the hand of the High Priest is the censer and this is filled with coals from the Bronze Alter (in the courtyard) and when he is in the Most Holy Place incense is applied giving off a sweet-smelling mist. The blood of the sacrificial animals for the Day of Atonement was also applied to the Mercy Seat in the Most Holy Place as well. The mist represents the prayers of repentance by the people for forgiveness of sin and the blood is applied to the mercy seat and God would grant atonement (a covering) for their sin for one year.
There was a very thick and heavy veil that separated the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place, this represented sinful flesh. When Jesus died, when the New Blood Covenant was ratified with the blood of man and the Blood of God in the person of Jesus Christ, that physical veil in the Temple was rent top to bottom. This veil represented the separation of God and man because of sinful flesh. When Jesus took our sins in His body that veil was taken out of the way and once again man had free and bold access into the presence of God.
Luke 23:44-46 (KJV)
44 And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.
45 And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst.
46 And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.
You and I brother and sister are continually on holy ground, we are continually in the presence of God with no separation. O hallelujah! Our spirit man was made perfect at Calvary, with our making of Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Our soul man generally still needs a lot of work, a complete renewing. The following passage is ahead in our study but let’s jump there now and rejoice in the wonder or our God.
Hebrews 10:19-22 (KJV)
19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,
20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;
21 And having an high priest over the house of God;
22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
This is all for today but tomorrow we will pick-up with a discussion of the Most Holy Place. It is always well to remember that we are God’s tabernacle since Calvary. He still dwells in the Most Holy Place, our spirit man.
Until our next publication, I speak blessing into your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)
24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
