What a wonderful and powerful teaching yesterday on the Ark of the Covenant. God is so very good to us! Today I will move forward in our illuminating Bible Study from the Book of Hebrews. First let us review our primary text.
Hebrews 9:1-7 (KJV)
1 Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary.
2 For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein was the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary.
3 And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all;
4 Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant;
5 And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we cannot now speak particularly.
6 Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God.
7 But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:
As we again look at the Ark of the Covenant and focus on its contents we find the Staff of Aaron which budded, a golden pot with manna, and “the tables of the covenant”. Aaron’s rod that budded and the golden pot with manna were not among the original articles God commanded to be in the Ark of the Covenant, they were placed later. Let us look at what the Lord said to Moses and the Children of Israel.
Exodus 25:21-22 (KJV)
21 And thou shalt put the mercy seat above upon the ark; and in the ark thou shalt put the testimony that I shall give thee.
22 And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubims which are upon the ark of the testimony, of all things which I will give thee in commandment unto the children of Israel.
The “mercy seat” is the top cover of the Ark of the Covenant. God commanded that “the testimony that I shall give thee” should be put into the Ark. You probably have noticed that our text from Hebrews says the “tables of the covenant” however the original instructions of the Lord would seem to indicate that the whole of the law would be put into the Ark. The whole of the Law is 613 commandments including the Ten Commandments (which were on the tablets). Six-hundred has to do with warfare and thirteen has to do with rebellion and depravity. As I am sure you are well aware we are in constant warfare with the forces of evil and even our own flesh to repudiate rebellion and depravity. We are constantly reminding ourselves to embrace the purity of God as our own. Constantly reminding ourselves of Calvary, of the shittim wood, of the One who purchased our purity and gave us a Covenant that God will not and cannot break. The budding rod of Aaron is representative of the One and the Covenant which gives life, eternal life restored. The golden bowl of manna represents the purity and empowering provision of God which is 180° opposite the wickedly deceitful and enslaving provisions of the devil. Where is the Ark of the Covenant today?
Revelation 11:19 (KJV)
19 And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.
What might we suppose would be in this “ark of his testament” in Heaven. Be reminded that the words “testament” and “covenant” are interchangeable, synonyms of one another. The whole of Scripture is His testimony and our testimony of Him. This testimony is to fill our minds and our mouths. When it does we will do the things Jesus did, and the greater things. We must flee the admixture of the Kingdom and the world, the mixing of good and evil in our thinking and in our words. Jesus is our life giver (eternal life) and our provision (physical and spiritual) for eternity. Just as we even now have spiritual life without end, without boundary so will we also at the Resurrection Day have a physical life without end or boundaries. In the same way the provisions of God through our mouth will also be boundless, not just enough. Even now the provision of God should be boundless in our lives, if it is not, it is a testimony to the effectiveness of the devil through the traditions of men, and the doctrine of devils, all adopted in the Church as the gospel of the Kingdom.
Until our next publication, I speak blessing into your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)
24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
