HEALTH, HEALING, AND MIRACLES – PART ONE
Sunday – March 11, 2018 – Adar 24, 5778
Starting today and for the next many Sundays I will be reviewing and teaching primarily on the miracles of Jesus. The “age” of miracles has not passed dear brother and sister although you would not know that from what we observe around us. The age of healing has not passed away. However, could a casual or even a careful observer find bona-fide healings as they look into each of our Churches and lives? Sickness is not the inheritance of those born again in Christ Jesus. The picture for this series depicts Jesus laying hands upon those who came to Him for healing.
An overarching theme for this teaching is that health, healing, and miracles are to be a present reality for the believer. Jesus told us that the things He did we are to do also and even greater things.
John 14:12-14 (KJV)
12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
What ever we see in Scripture that Jesus did in His earthly ministry we are to do the same and even greater things. We are to do all these things in the name of Jesus. Believers are in (baptized into) Christ Jesus and when we speak it is the same as Jesus speaking. In the beginning God gave a sinless man (Adam) all authority in the earth. That man sinned surrendering that authority to the one to whom he bowed his knee, the Serpent. A sinless man came into the earth and paid the price of sin redeeming man from sin. That man, Jesus, at His resurrection was all man and all God. He, God, immediately restored all authority to man over all the earth. Believers are to do all things in the name of Jesus for that is the source of our authority, it is His authority bestowed upon us to accomplish all that we are to do. Consider the following passages especially the seventeenth (17 = victory) verse of Colossians three. Colossians is the twelfth Book of the New Testament. Twelve represents the perfect government of God. Three is divine completeness. We are complete in Him.
Colossians 3:16-17 (KJV)
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
In Him we operate in the highest authority, we are complete in Him.
Colossians 2:10 (KJV)
10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
We are to reign in this life as kings.
Romans 5:17 (CSB Bible) (CSB = Christian Standard Bible)
17 Since by the one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive the overflow of grace and the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.
We reign in life as kings through the one man, Jesus Christ.
Matthew 17:19-20 (KJV)
19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
Please notice as we review these Scriptures that if we will chose to eliminate doubt, have faith, and speak there is nothing that is impossible unto us.
Matthew 21:19-22 (KJV)
19 And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.
20 And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away!
21 Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.
22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.
In Mark we see the same account from the prospective of a different writer.
Mark 11:22-24 (KJV)
22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.
23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
Jesus tells us over and over, speak to the mountain, whatever it may be and it will be removed. Again, we see that we must not doubt, we must have faith (in God), we must speak, and then it will come to pass. Notice that Jesus equates eliminating doubt, having faith, and speaking with prayer in both the Matthew and Mark accounts. He is not going to speak to it for us no more than the Father spoke to anything on Jesus’ behalf during His earthly ministry. He did all of His earthly ministry as a man, from the womb of the Virgin Mary to the Resurrection.
Mark 16:15-20 (KJV)
15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.
20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.
Our faith ignites the Power of God and the mountain is moved. With regard to other people being healed when we lay hands on them or speak the Word it is their faith that makes them whole. Just as people came to Jesus expecting to be healed they should be able to come to us with the same expectation. The Anointing upon us coupled with their faith makes them whole. Additionally, we must have unwavering faith in God, in the power of God (Matthew 17:19-20 above). Nothing was impossible to Jesus and He said there was nothing impossible to us as well. Do we believe that? In each of our lives the limiting factor is faith. As I end for today there is something that I must stress which is fundamental to walking in the footsteps of Jesus. We speak to the mountain, the disease, etc. in the name of Jesus and the Father will do the work. We do not ask Jesus or the Father to do the work absent our exercise of authority, our command.
