BY FAITH THE WALLS OF JERICHO FELL
Friday – May 25, 2018, Sivan 11, 5778

Greetings and welcome back to this amazing study from the Book of Hebrews concerning the faith of those who have gone before us. This is called the Hall of Fame of Faith and we are to learn and develop great faith (in God) for the glory of God. You and I are on assignment in the earth from Heaven and we must focus and be about that assignment and not the cares of life. As we move forward let’s read aloud our primary Bible text.
Hebrews 11:30-32 (KJV)
30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days.
31 By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace.
32 And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets:
Once again Friday is upon us. As we close out what is commonly thought of as the work week we will be learning from the faith of Joshua. As you will recall Moses was prevented by God from entering the Promised Land due to an episode of disobedience. Let’s look at that as we move forward.
Numbers 20:8 (KJV)
8 Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.
The children of Israel were in a position where they needed water. There was a prior occasion as well when the children of Israel needed water and God provided. Let’s take a look at that.
Exodus 17:6 (KJV)
6 Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.
Keep in mind that the rock is Christ Jesus, the water is the cleansing Word of God, which is also Christ Jesus. On this occasion Moses was instructed to strike the rock and water would come forth. This is looking forward to the cleansing Word of God that brings eternal life. The rock (Jesus) would need to be struck (hang on the Cross one time) in order for sin to be washed away and eternal life restored. However, in our Numbers twenty text below God told Moses to speak to the rock but Moses did not but struck the rock not once but twice.
Numbers 20:11-12 (KJV)
11 And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.
12 And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.
Once Jesus was struck, paid the price of salvation, we only need to speak the desired thing and it is done. God said that Moses did not believe Him, no faith. However, God still provided the water in His mercy upon the children. We also see that Moses was frustrated and provoked by the peoples.
Numbers 20:10 (KJV)
10 And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? (Bold added)
Oh, how careful we must be with the commands of God, His instructions must be followed without exception. We see in verse twelve above that this disobedience by Moses, giving into emotions, cost him the privilege of leading the people into this land that flowed with milk and honey. We must be careful that our actions do not prevent us from having the fullness of God in our lives and completing our assignment with great success.
Well, I guess we both have noticed that I have not really gotten to the wall of Jericho. Lord willing, I will move forward on Monday. Until our next publication, I speak this Scriptural prayer for your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
2 Peter 1:2-4 (KJV)
2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
