BY FAITH SAMSON

Greetings and welcome back to this wonderful faith building study of faith from the faith Book itself, Hebrews, Holy Scripture. God is so good to give us His Word whereby and from which all good things arise. As you know from the title and picture I will be dealing with Samson, a Judge God gave to Israel. Let’s take a look at our primary text reading it aloud.
Hebrews 11:32-34 (KJV)
32 And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets:
33 Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,
34 Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.
I suppose most of us have heard and perhaps even read the account of the life of Samson. It may have been awhile since you reviewed it in detail. I will not be diving into the minute details of his life either but I do want us all to recognize that God uses some very imperfect peoples to accomplish His will in the earth. Our demonic enemies’ constant drumbeat in our ears is that we really can’t do anything for God because of our past or current flaws. I am not advocating for sin in our past or present but I am saying it is indeed a rare person that doesn’t have a flawed past or present. In spite of our past and to some extent our present God is able to do mighty things through us if we will but have faith and do it with the right motivations (love). These heroes of faith I have been discussing were all flawed, some very seriously flawed yet God was able to use them for great things because of their faith, faith in Him, faith in His Word. As we push on to perfection let’s be encouraged by this. Now, let’s get a little closer look at the life of Samson.
Judges 13:1-5 (KJV)
1 And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD delivered them into the hand of the Philistines forty years.
2 And there was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren, and bare not.
3 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son.
4 Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing:
5 For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come on his head: for the child shall be a Nazarite unto God from the womb: and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.
As we review the preceding text we see that Israel is repeating the pattern of peace and prosperity, followed by sin and bondage, followed by repentance, and so on. We see this declared with great clarity down through Scripture but especially in the life of Israel. We can see this in the life of a Church and in our own individual lives. There is no peace and prosperity apart from God, period. When will we learn that and wholly lean on Him 100% of the time? An interesting thing I noticed in this account is that the name of Samson’s mother is never mentioned, she is referred to as the woman. This word “woman” is the same word first used by Adam in describing Eve.
Genesis 2:22-23 (KJV)
22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
The Hebrew word translated as woman is ʾishshâ according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. This word is most commonly taken to mean wife. However, if you look at what God said prior to this, we will find the will of God, the original and persisting intent of God.
Genesis 2:18 (KJV)
18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
A help meet is one who surrounds, protects, aids, helps, and succor’s another. One who is able and appropriate according to an old English definition. Eve was made specifically for Adam and was exactly who was needed to do the plan of God and so it was with Manoah (resting place) and the woman (his help meet). Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow with our study of the Hall of Fame of faith. Until our next publication, I speak this Scriptural prayer for your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
2 Peter 1:2-4 (KJV)
2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
