HEALTH, HEALING, AND MIRACLES – PART SIXTEEN
Sunday – June 24, 2018, Tamuz 11, 5778
Welcome back to this powerful and instructive study of Health, Healing, and Miracles taken from the life and ministry of Jesus. Again, recall that we are to do the things He did and even greater things. Of course, the maintenance of Health is the best place to start and stay. However, for most Christians due to many factors including inadequate Scriptural teaching sickness already has taken hold and is well established. It is easier to stay out of a hole than to get out of a hole. Today I will start with a discussion about the healing of two blind men.
Matthew 9:27-31 (KJV)
27 And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou Son of David, have mercy on us.
28 And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord.
29 Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you.
30 And their eyes were opened; and Jesus straitly charged them, saying, See that no man know it.
31 But they, when they were departed, spread abroad his fame in all that country.
In this wonderful testimony from the ministry of Christ Jesus we find two men who are blind. These men have heard about this Jesus, that He is in fact the promised Messiah. These blind men use the term “Son of David” which is the same as saying Messiah, Anointed One, the Son of God. They have heard the good news of the Kingdom, about Jesus, and about healing otherwise they would not be crying out for healing, for mercy. The reason I am bringing this to the forefront is that faith is necessary for healing to take place, and faith comes only one way and that is by hearing the Word of God. Jesus tests their faith confession when he asks them if they believe He is able to heal them. They responded in the affirmative. He than tells them that what they are receiving is according to or proportional to their faith. Faith in what? Faith in Him as an Anointed vessel of God, faith in the Word of God they had heard, and faith in God. Jesus made it very clear elsewhere in Scripture that He could do nothing of Himself, it was the Father who did the works. Why? Because He was operating as a man in the earth, not as God. Operating just as we are to operate! Instantly right there on the spot their eyes were opened, faith ignited or gave fuel to the Anointing and a marvelous healing occurred.
We then see Jesus tell them not to tell anyone. We see this in other Scriptures as well. Even if they told no one how much of a secret is that going to be in a very short time? In the very next verse we see how well they followed that request. Just think about how well you would have done following that instruction. One day you need a white stick, a dog, or a helper and the next you’re sitting outside reading the newspaper or shopping by yourself at the grocery store. This is somewhat mysterious but it could be that He, Jesus, did not want the focus on Himself or on the miracle but on the Word of God, the good news that the Kingdom of God was at hand. Let’s move to another wonderful testimony before we finish for today. Remember, this is what our lives are to look like.
Matthew 9:32-35 (KJV)
32 As they went out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a devil.
33 And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel.
34 But the Pharisees said, He casteth out devils through the prince of the devils.
35 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.
It would appear from the narrative that this man was demon possessed and the demon (devil) prevented the man from speaking. Jesus cast the devil out and the man could speak freely. The man willingly came to Jesus with the knowledge that healing was possible with this man (Jesus). They (those that brought the man) had heard the good news message, they no doubt heard the testimonies, and came in faith, even the demon possessed man. A devil or demon cannot override the will (freewill) of any person, they must be granted permission and cooperated with. The Holy Spirit (God) will not override the will (freewill) of any person. The faith of this man and his friends in Jesus, in the good news of the Kingdom, and in God brought a devil out of this man. The ruling Church people were upset, with envy. The final verse tells Jesus’ modus operandi. How does faith come? Hearing the Word of God. What makes us whole? Faith igniting the Anointing upon us or another. Jesus taught and preached the good news (gospel) of the Kingdom, and this was followed by health, healing, and miracles.
