STEALING, KILLING, DESTROYING OR ABUNDANT LIFE
Tuesday – June 26, 2018, Tamuz 13, 5778
Greetings and welcome back to this powerful faith building Bible Study from the Book of Hebrews. The featured picture is of Patti and me at the Rangeley Overlook here in Maine October 2016. These were good times in our life together, times to be treasured, however many wonderful times lie just ahead. When one is separated from their help meet in the earth by death they are seriously damaged, compromised, for a season. BUT, we have a God of mercy, a God of restoration for the remainder of our earthly journey. And, as I said above many wonderful things lie ahead when we shed this earthly tabernacle and join our Lord and those who have gone before including our help meet. Just as we did things together for the Kingdom of God in this life so we will also in the one to come. O what wonder lies just ahead, just out of sight except by the eye of faith and the revelation of God. Now let’s turn our attention to our study. Isn’t the Word of God just wonderful? The Word of God is not a book with wonderful prose and empty promises (pie in the sky, hope for the foolish masses) but the promises are real and obtained by faith powered by love. I would also point out that neither are the obligations clearly expressed in this Book of our Blood Covenant with God just empty commands that are optional. These commands, obligations, are pivotal to fulfilling the will of God in our lives and thereby experiencing the will of God in our lives. Now, let’s once again read our primary Bible text aloud and jump in further.
Hebrews 11:35-38 (KJV)
35 Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:
36 And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:
37 They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;
38 (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.
We spent yesterday thinking and talking about the awful things that have and are happening to Christians (all peoples) and whether these are the will of God as some suppose or not the will of God. I noted that the Matthew chapter twenty-four passage that we reviewed yesterday started with Jesus cautioning them and us to beware of deception. If you did not notice it yesterday I want you to notice today that Jesus clearly tells us in verse five that this deception is in the Church. These deceptions come from Church leadership, persons who say to us that they are anointed. We therefore receive their words as the truth of God when all the while they themselves are deluded and leading us into destruction. We then looked at the following verse and I asked us a question.
John 10:10 (KJV)
10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
Now the question from yesterday. Did Jesus just forget and leave out the awful stuff that is also His will? Did the Word (Jesus) leave the glorious wonder of Heaven and endure the curse in the earth, the Cross, and time in Hell so we could have more awful stuff? At the root of all destruction is deception which we must cast down at its onset. Deception does not come from an “it” as in an inanimate object or animal or even another person, it always arises from a demonic source. It is communicated to us through other people, and those people may be saints or sinners. Commonly the most effective deceptions come from or through Church leadership to the saints. Never forget, the person deceived does not know they are deceived and are not willfully deceiving other people. This includes sinners as well. Deception can only be revealed by the Spirit of God through the Word of God.
We are not saved to escape Hell alone, but to be an effective witness to the heathen and even our brethren (and sisters) in the Church. When we leave here for our Heavenly abode the general quality of our lives should not be greatly different. In other words, we should not be like the Beverly Hill Billy’s arriving at their mansion but we should be transferring mansions. Now, do not get me wrong, when we arrive in Heaven there will be no question we have come up a huge notch no matter what we had in the earth. All that we have in the earth and it is to be copious, abundant, overflowing, is a tool for us to use in furthering the Kingdom of God. We are not to be attached to the things, they are but tools, these things enhance or lives and the lives of those around us but they are not the precious things in the earth, the people are!
