LET US NOT REFUSE JESUS
Thursday – July 26, 2018, Av 14, 5778

Greetings precious sons and daughters of the most high God and welcome back to this wonderful Bible Study from the Book of Hebrews. Let us all decide even now that we are not going to leave Jesus outside knocking on our door but will hastily bring Him inside and sup with Him. All that He has to say is of paramount interest and importance in our lives now and forever. I for one declare that I am a partaker of every bit of the Word making it my Word, it is me just as it is Jesus. That is to say that I am indistinguishable from the Word and the Word is indistinguishable from me. We left off yesterday meditating on Jesus our mediator before the Father on our behalf. It is His Blood that sealed or ratified this New Covenant. In Him, His salvation is our salvation, all that was restored to Him is restored to us. Jesus, The Word, had a total restoration as God only now with an incorruptible flesh and bone body. In Him we have total restoration, but better than Adam, we are a new creature or creation. Thank you, Jesus, you are our safety net, we are free of the curse of the law of sin and death. Now, let’s proceed to our primary text and read it aloud.
Hebrews 12:24-29 (KJV)
24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.
25 See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:
26 Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.
27 And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.
28 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:
29 For our God is a consuming fire.
As we move our attention and diligent attention into verse twenty-five above we are warned not to turn away from the Word of the Lord. In reference to the children of Israel at Mount Sinai when God spoke from the mountain we are warned not to turn away from God who now speaks from Heaven as they did and perished. They all perished in the wilderness. Are you in a wilderness, the solution is to listen to and do the Word of God. All things that can be shaken are being shaken, I think even a minimally observant person can be aware of the current shaking that will continue until the last day. Fear not dear brother and sister. This shaking which will grow in intensity over time but shall not harm those who love the Lord and live/walk by faith. The shaking is not for the obedient to God but for the disobedient, it is mercy on display to get the attention of those who despise God.
The word “heaven” in verse twenty-six is pleural in number but does not include the third Heaven which is the abode of God. As we discussed earlier in the week the third Heaven is the home of the saints who have gone on before us. This includes both the resurrected (those who have uncorrupted physical bodies) and those spirits who await their resurrection (await their uncorrupted physical body). The first heaven is the atmospheric envelope about the earth. The second heaven is what we commonly refer to as outer space which contains our solar system, galaxy and those things that lay beyond. The Word of God tells us that there are to be great signs in the heavens.
Acts 2:19-21 (KJV)
19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:
20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:
21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
The purpose of the shaking is to bring the lost to salvation. Also, consider that the disobedient Christian can also be saved from perishing (the effects of the merciless curse) by obedience. That is not to say that the disobedient Christian is going to Hell but it is to say that they will suffer great loss in the earth and Heaven but be saved. The obedient to the Word (walking in love) Christian will not be shaken and they will not fear for they know that it cannot harm them which abide in the secret place of the most high God. As we meditate and make verse twenty-eight our own we find that this kingdom of which we are a part, the Kingdom of God cannot be moved (shaken). Consider, are you born again perhaps even baptized in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues yet are full of fear and your life is being shaken? You are in the world and of the world? Christians although in the world are never to be of the world. Those things that bring great consequence in the world are to never bring destruction into our lives. The storm may come but it cannot affect us, it is a deception of the enemy to make us think that we will be washed away and drown like the disciples of Jesus thought that night on the Sea of Galilee. As verse twenty-eight makes clear the Grace of God (Holy Spirit) will keep us. This chapter ends with the statement that our God is a consuming fire. Those who afflict us (put pressure on us) whether it be people or demonic personalities will suffer eternal destruction of fire. Let us pray for the mercy of God upon those who are now refusing that they have a greater space of time for repentance.
2 Thessalonians 1:6-9 (HCSB)
6 since it is righteous for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you
7 and ⌊to reward⌋ with rest you who are afflicted, along with us. ⌊This will take place⌋ at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with His powerful angels,
8 taking vengeance with flaming fire on those who don’t know God and on those who don’t obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
9 These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction from the Lord’s presence and from His glorious strength
Until our next publication, I speak this Scriptural prayer for your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
2 Peter 1:2-4 (KJV)
2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
