HEALTH, HEALING, AND MIRACLES – PART TWENTY-FOUR
Sunday – August 19, 2018, Elul 8, 5778

Greetings and welcome back to this wonderful study of health, healing, and miracles in the ministry of Christ Jesus. The reason this is important to us is for our training so that we can do the things He did and the greater things (John 14:12). Let me again point out that as wonderful as it is, the need for healing and the healing are not God’s best in the Kingdom of God. Our Heavenly Father has provided for us to have health, health that supersedes the curse. The part of the curse remaining to which we are subject is natural aging for our bodies are not immortal. That said, we can be healthy at every stage of advancing age and remain so until God tells us our assignment is done and we can come home when we are ready. The remainder of today’s study will concern “blind Bartimaeus”.
Matthew 20:29-34 (KJV)
29 And as they departed from Jericho, a great multitude followed him.
30 And, behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David.
31 And the multitude rebuked them, because they should hold their peace: but they cried the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David.
32 And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What will ye that I shall do unto you?
33 They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened.
34 So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.
In this account from Matthew we see two blind men and will find out in the other gospel accounts that one is Bartimaeus. First, I want to call our attention to the phrase “O Lord, thou Son of David”. The use of this phrase indicates that they understood that this man Jesus was the Messiah. Never forget or be talked out of the Scriptural fact that all Jesus did in His earthly ministry including going to the Cross and Hell was as a man. The Messiah had to be a sinless man just as Adam was a sinless man. His spirit man had to die and His physical man had to die and He had to suffer the consequences of sin in Hell for every man. The use of the name “David” brings to mind Christ Jesus is in the natural lineage of Christ Jesus.
Matthew 1:1 (KJV)
1 The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
These men cried out to Jesus, the Messiah, for mercy. I suspect everyone reading this has most likely on more than one occasion cried out for mercy from the Messiah. My Savior, my God, has certainly extended mercy to me on more than one occasion, mercy that I did not deserve. However, Jesus purchased with His precious Blood an abundant supply of mercy, enough for us all for eternity. Notice in verse thirty-two (number of Covenant) Jesus asked them what it was that they wanted Him to do for them. This is critical, it is written in James that we have not for we ask (or fail to put a demand on) not. Our asking which is more of a decree must be done in faith. I want to make a small point here that I believe is critical to our operation in the earth as He operated in the earth. Jesus makes it clear elsewhere that He can do nothing of Himself, it is the Father who does the works yet here He does not hesitate to ask them what they want Him to do. It was a simple question, He did not go into a long explanation that it was not really Him but the Father. These men came with faith that the Power of God rested upon and in Him and that His touch would bring wholeness. Do people have faith that if they come to you or me that the power (Anointing) of God in and with us will make them whole? If not, then each of us must examine (judge) ourselves before God with the question “why not?” Jesus touched these men, they received their sight, and they followed Him. Do you suppose that one of the reasons people do not maintain their healing is that they do not follow Jesus? Let’s look at what the gospel writer Mark records of this event.
Mark 10:46-52 (KJV)
46 And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging.
47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.
48 And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.
49 And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee.
50 And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus.
51 And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.
52 And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.
In Mark’s account we find out that one of the men (no mention of the other man) is named Bartimaeus. In verse fifty (number of Holy Spirit and Jubilee) we see Him cast away his garment. That garment was the identifier that he was blind and a beggar. Even without discernment or gift of knowledge Jesus and everyone there knew what the man (men) wanted. Yet the question came and man had to make the end result desired known. Notice what made the man whole? The man’s faith coming in contact with the Anointing made the man whole which is different than a simple (really not so simple) healing of the blindness. The word “whole” in this text is the very same word that is translated as save or salvation in other places. When we are saved we are healed in every area, will we receive it? This man not only received eyesight but was restored in every way.
Until our next publication, I speak this Scriptural prayer for your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Exodus 15:26 (KJV)
26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.
