RIGHTEOUSNESS – PART THREE

Greetings to all and welcome back to this fascinating study of righteousness, of being righteous in both the Old and New Covenants (Testament). Thus far we are still dealing with this concept, the expected condition for the true worshippers of God.

First off, let me present the definitions of being righteous and righteousness. The Complete Word Study Dictionary definition of righteous. “An adjective meaning just, righteous. The term bears primarily a moral or ethical significance. Someone or something is considered to be just or righteous because of conformity to a given standard. It could be used to describe people or actions in a legal context, indicating they were in accordance with the legal standards (2 Ki. 10:9); or in a religious context, that they were in accordance with God’s standards (Gen. 6:9).” Righteousness is a feminine noun meaning righteousness, blameless conduct, and integrity. The noun describes justice, right actions, and right attitudes, as expected from both God and people when they judge according to The Complete Word Study Dictionary – Old Testament. Did you notice that the gender of righteousness is feminine meaning that it can, in fact is designed by God to bring forth fruit. Do we want to bear the fruits of righteousness? The Prophet Amos speaks of the fruits of righteousness.

Amos 6:12 (NIV)

12 Do horses run on the rocky crags? Does one plow there with oxen? But you have turned justice into poison and the fruit of righteousness into bitterness—

Instead, one finds injustice and wickedness in the place of justice and righteousness. Sounds like 2024 don’t you think? So, to summarize we are talking about being right with God which is doing right according to His thoughts, Words, and ways, being just or impartial, and having a Godly attitude. A tree for the most part is not useful but the fruit of the tree can nourish and sustain a person. Remember the seed is within itself to multiply itself. In Scripture the seed is the Word of God. When we confess that we are righteous, the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus we are sowing seed which will bring forth our righteousness by the transforming of our mind. We must be ever mindful that we are righteous and have a responsibility before God to act in righteousness. Our enemies (spiritual) will try to provoke us and bring out the “old man”. We must by our knowledge, by our will cast down those evil ideas, those old emotions, and embrace being righteous and a person of righteousness. Let us embrace the commands to emulate (pattern ourselves after) and day by day become more and more like Jesus.

Finally, know there is a connection between righteousness and prosperity here and now. Strong’s Number H6666 translated as righteousness means rightness, rectitude, justice, moral (virtue) or prosperity, being right according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. It is right (according to God), it is a righteous thing for a man/woman of God to be rich in both the physical and spiritual realms. Quite frankly one does not come without the other. Spiritual then the natural. Consider these verses as I close for this Sunday. Notice the fruitfulness.

Psalm 112:1-4 (KJV)

1 Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.

2 His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed.

3 Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth for ever.

4 Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.

Proverbs 13:22 (KJV)

22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.
