RIGHTEOUSNESS – PART FOUR
Welcome back precious saints of God and others as you rejoin our Sunday Bible Study continuing to focus on “righteousness”. As you will recall this falls into an area of what I have called “Church words”. Which is to say, words we hear them used most commonly in Church and less commonly, if at all, outside of Church. The words righteous and righteousness occur twice as much in the Old Testament as in the New Testament. I don’t know about you but that was a bit of a surprise to me.
Thus far in this study we have been focused on the use and meaning of these words in the Old Testament. I will finish with the Old Testament (Covenant, Contract) today and move into the New Testament. We have determined that words synonymous with “righteous and righteousness” include just, lawful, rightness, rectitude, justice, moral virtue, and prosperity. I left off last Sunday briefly discussing prosperity. Prosperity, especially financial prosperity, in the here and now is a dirty word in some circles. In the Kingdom of God nothing could be further from the Truth, the will of God. I will now share again the verses from last Sunday concerning the rightness of prosperity for God’s family.
Psalm 112:1-4 (KJV)
1 Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.
2 His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed.
3 Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth for ever.
4 Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.
Proverbs 13:22 (KJV)
22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.
Remember Abram/Abraham? The land grant for the Jews to live in the land they now occupy (not the full Divine Deed) came through Abraham some 4000 years ago. When God deeded it to His first Covenant people, the Jews, Abraham received it by faith and God counted it to him for righteousness.
Genesis 15:6 (KJV)
6 And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.
God counted it as righteousness means that God saw it or considered it as righteousness or right. Remember Abraham was very wealthy. God was not offended. Perhaps you remember that God promised to make him rich and famous back in Genesis 12:1-3.
Genesis 13:1-2 (KJV)
1 And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the south.
2 And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.
God wants us rich and famous as well which is the will of God in the earth as in Heaven and gives an enhanced capacity for influence. That is to say, to draw people to the Kingdom of God and bring the Kingdom of God into every sphere of influence. The blessing upon Abraham for the things of this earth is upon us plus we have the promise of the Spirit through faith.
Galatians 3:13-14 (KJV)
13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
Lord willing, I will pick up our study of righteousness right here next Sunday. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
