WORDS CONTRARY TO THE WORD OF GOD ARE PERVERSE

Perhaps you are thinking I don’t have perverse lips or even asking yourself, what in the world are perverse lips. It is surprisingly common or maybe not surprising since the devil has trained the body of Christ well that words are not important or perhaps only the words uttered in prayer or in Church. That is a lie that is from perverse lips. Let’s jump into our anchor text.
Proverbs 4:20-24 (KJV)
20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.
21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.
22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
24 Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.
Do you appreciate all the wonderful things we are promised when we make the Word of God our focus and meditation? Is anyone reading this not desirous of the Zoe (God kind of life) life and health in your body? Well, here is the key! We must maintain or thought life in accordance with the Word of God (vs 23) and it sets the safe boundaries of our lives. What destroys those safe boundaries, the hedges of our lives that keep the devils at bay? Short answer is perverse lips. The meaning of this word in the Hebrew is to turn aside from, depart from. In this case turn aside from the Word of God or depart from the Word of God.
Noah Webster in his 1828 Dictionary of the English language says (my abstraction) this about being perverse. It is a turning aside, a distortion of what is right, being obstinate, being contrary, suborn, intractable, tending to petulance, cross in temper, to vex, and acting in opposition to what is proper.
My goodness, I don’t want any of that to describe me, what about you? A perverse mouth is one that speaks words contrary to the Word of God. The Word of God says you are to be prosperous but you’re always talking poverty. The Word of God says you have a Covenant of health and healing, but you keep talking about all your ailments. This does not mean we don’t acknowledge the issues or that we deny them. It means that we speak the Word of God and not the curse, claiming our Covenant rights, benefits in Christ Jesus asking what we must do to be on His path. Let us constantly speak the Word of God to our circumstances in thanksgiving, in praise, with a grateful, joyful heart to God. As I write this I am reminded of the following passage.
James 1:5-8 (KJV)
5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
Are you, am I, that double minded man believing the lies of the enemy and then briefly turning to God’s Word and then back to the words of the enemy with a depressed attitude not walking in wisdom?
Where is your hope, real hope? Is it in man or in God? Jeremiah 17:5-10 tells us that we will walk in the curse if our hope is in man and we walk in the blessing when our hope is in God. Now, God many times brings our blessing our answers through other people, but we are not looking to people but to God and let God work with the people. Let’s keep our focus on God.
Romans 8:5-8 (KJV)
5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
What is our decision? Have you chosen death of various sorts or life and peace? The word “minded” here means to be focused upon. Is your primary focus to please God or man? Come on folks lets clean up our mouths speaking the Word of God with praise and thanksgiving in full submission.
TAKE HOME:
- Quit talking about and believing things contrary to the Word of God, talk the solution (Word of God) and not the problem. Yes, deal with the problem as necessary with full hope in God.
- Wisdom is one prayer away if we will listen and be attentive to how the Holy Spirit leads. This Wisdom may come through a Scripture, He leads you to, a person may come to you, you may see teaching on TV or even in your Pastors next sermon. Be on the watch for it and move on it.
- Do not have perverse lips departing from the Word of God.
As the Lord wills I will start a new study tomorrow titled “THE TRAIL OF BLOOD”. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
