PETER A RESPECTER OF PERSONS

Welcome sons of God to this ongoing study of the Bible Book of James. I see this Bible Book as generally straight forward and practical. Please be sure you have come with ears to hear and eyes to see. Once you or I hear and see we must be prepared to implement this fresh revelation and walk in the light of our new understanding. Now, back to our lengthy text from James chapter two.

James 2:1-13 (KJV)

1 My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.

2 For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;

3 And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:

4 Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?

5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

6 But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?

7 Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?

8 If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:

9 But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.

10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

12 So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.

13 For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

Yesterday I established from Scripture that being a respecter of persons or showing partiality in judgment in the context of love (agapaō) is sin. It is unrighteousness. Our Heavenly Father is not a respecter of persons; therefore, we are not to be a respecter of persons and be pleasing to Him. Part of Divine love (agapē) is walking in Covenant with our Heavenly Father is treating or relating to people the same as He does.

Let’s look at an example in Scripture when the Apostle Peter showed partiality and was corrected by the Apostle Paul. Peter and other Jews were eating with the Gentiles until Jews sent by James the Just (the writer of the book of James) came from Jerusalem.

Galatians 2:11-14 (KJV)

11 But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed.

12 For before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the circumcision.

13 And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation.

14 But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?

TAKE HOME:

1. Being a respecter of persons, showing favoritism is unrighteous judgment and is sin.
2. It is a breach of Blood Covenant with our Heavenly Father to exercise favoritism, being a respecter of persons. Breach of Blood Covenant demands death.
3. Succumbing to peer pressure is a common temptation, test.

Lord willing, I will resume right here tomorrow.  Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
