Proverbs 17:22 (KJV)
22 A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.
Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Welcome back to our wonderful and exciting Bible Study from the Book of Hebrews. God is so very good and He is nothing but good. Now let’s delve back into our primary text in Hebrews.
Hebrews 3:1-3 (KJV)
1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;
2 Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.
3 For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house.
As you will recall, last week I ended our discussion in Hebrews 3:1 and we talked about Jesus as High Priest. In like manner, we are also priests in the earth. We are to intercede even advocate on behalf of others in the earth before God. As we intercede before God for other men, who intercedes for us? Jesus is our High Priest in Heaven (Hebrews 4:14) before the Father at the Mercy Seat in the presence of the New Blood Covenant. In addition, we should obtain and ask the Holy Spirit to lead others in our lives including friends, relatives, ministry associates, the Pastor, and the Prophet in our lives. So, at any given time, there should be a minimum of two persons interceding for us, one is Jesus, and at least one other in the earth (of course, we can intercede on our own behalf). I also reminded us all that Jesus is also King of kings. Brother and sister, we are the kings over which He is King. Our two major functions in the earth, duties in the Kingdom of God, are to decree the will of God into the earth, and intercede for our fellow man. Brother and sister, just like Jesus, we are kings and priests of the order of Melchisedec.
Let me remind us all that Christ Jesus is the Apostle and High Priest of our profession. Recall that this word ‘profession’ is the same as confession and means to say the same thing. Jesus, the Word, has given us the message (Apostle) and He is watching over those Words before the Father (High Priest) to be sure they come true. Christ Jesus is insuring that all natural and spiritual laws are functioning (Hebrews 1:3) however the only words that further the Kingdom of God are His Words in our mouth. Listen to the Prophet Jeremiah.
Jeremiah 1:9-12 (KJV)
9 Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.
10 See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.
11 Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said, I see a rod of an almond tree.
12 Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.
Now let’s deal with the phrase, “Christ Jesus”. I know that in one way or another I deal with the word ‘Christ’ often. However, I know as do you, that old habits (false high places, dark knowledge, engrained thoughts of the world) are hard to root out and replace with the new (Word of God). Many of us have or had a tendency to just translate ‘Christ Jesus’ in our mind as Jesus. If we do that we miss a vast richness of Scripture. We know that the given (by God) name of our Lord is Jesus meaning Savior or Jehovah Saved. The angel of the Lord came to both Joseph and Mary to proclaim the coming Messiah (Savior, the One Who would redeem mankind back to Jehovah) who would take away sin and that His name was to be Jesus.
Matthew 1:21 (KJV)
21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
Luke 1:31 (KJV)
31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
The word ‘Christ’ as it refers to Jesus can mean Messiah, Anointed One, or the Anointing (Holy Spirit). Jesus was and is the Messiah (redeemer, savior), and He was the Anointed One who showed us how to walk as Anointed ones. The Anointing that filled Jesus to overflowing is the Holy Spirit Who fills and overflows us. Christ never refers to the Holy Spirit distinctly separate from Jesus but in connection with Jesus just as He (Holy Spirit) Anoints (fills and overflows) each of us. Just as Jesus has Christ attached to His name in the context of being the Anointed One so do we as Anointed ones.
As it concerns us, the ‘A’ of Anointing is capitalized for the Anointing is the deity of the Holy Spirit. The ‘o’ of ones is not capitalized as it relates to us since we are created just a little lower than God. None of us are the Messiah however in our calling we all are doing our part to have people reconciled to God. So, the point I am getting at is when we see Christ Jesus, Jesus Christ, or Christ we must look at the context and translate the proper message to be taken away. Now to look back at our text we would translate the term ‘Christ Jesus’ in our mind to Messiah (High Priest) and Anointed One (Apostle).
I will, Lord willing, pickup right here tomorrow.
Until our next publication, I speak blessing into your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)
24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
