KING AND PRIEST
Friday – Aug 25, 2017

Greetings and welcome back to our wonderful Bible Study from the Book of Hebrews. This study is presented by Dr. Wood and The Three Minute Word publications. We, Patti and I, are so happy that you are a partner and or friend of this ministry. God is so good. We speak the Grace and peace of God be multiplied in each of your lives through the diligent application of the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, in Jesus name.
2 Peter 1:2 (KJV)
2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
Remember, that it being Friday, this is the day I remind us all to pray for the Church of God (not the denomination). The Church pictured is the Fayette Baptist Church located in Fayette Maine. We pray for the peoples, not the buildings, although the Churches of our God should be splendid. When our personal tabernacles are thoroughly furnished so will our homes, our businesses, our Churches, and the Ministries God places in our hands. Selah.
Now let’s dive back into our Bible Study starting with a careful reexamination of our text.
Hebrews 3:1-3 (KJV)
1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;
2 Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.
3 For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house.
This letter is for all of the Church but was targeted to the Hebrews who had practiced Judaism and were now Christians. These Hebrews had come to understand that the Old (blood) Covenant had been superseded by this New (Blood) Covenant ratified for eternity by the Blood of Jesus. Our text reminds us and announces the good news that we are partakers, or participants, of this heavenly calling. As we discussed we are not just called to be citizens of Heaven but to carry out the missions given us in the earth and later in Heaven. We discussed how the word ‘consider’ might be better translated as ‘obey’. We have discussed the similarities between an apostle and an ambassador. An Apostle is one ordained by God into the Five-Fold Ministry whereas we are all called as ambassadors. We finished yesterday discussing Jesus as our High Priest and how Aaron and those who followed were a type and shadow of The High Priest (Jesus) to follow.
The final Scripture that I left us with yesterday was Hebrews 5:1-6 and you may have noticed a mention of Melchisedec.
Hebrews 5:6 (KJV)
6 As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
We first see Melchisedec in Genesis coming to meet Abram after the battle of four kings against five. We also find the first mention of the tithe in this account and that is found in Genesis 14:20. Before we examine the following verse further I want to make a comment about the first mention of the tithe and the Biblical Numerology of the verse within which it is found. Genesis is the first book of the Bible and the number of unity. Fourteen is the number of deliverance and twenty is the number of redemption. The tithe is the Lords part (as Christians it belongs to Him), it is our obligation to bring that part to the Lord. Withholding the tithe is theft. Bringing the tithe to the Lord is an act of obedience, of love. Our obedience before God brings us into unity with Him, and is a sign that we recognize the value of our deliverance, redemption through Him. Now back to Melchizedek.
Genesis 14:18 (KJV)
18 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.
Notice that Melchizedek is the king of Salem or what later is called Jerusalem. He was also a priest, a priest before the most high God (Elohim). This should be sounding familiar because Jesus is also a king and priest therefore the statement that Jesus is of the order of Melchizedek. Jesus is the King of kings, and He is our (Christians) High Priest. Guess who else is a king and priest? You and me brother and sister!
Revelation 1:6 (KJV)
6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
Looking back at Genesis 14:18 we find Melchizedek, king of Salem and priest of the most high God bringing bread and wine to Abram. Wow, the broken body (Bread – Bread of Eternal Life) and shed blood (ratifying Seal of the New Covenant) of Jesus on full display from the beginning. When we observe this individually or in Church it is commonly called the Eucharist or Communion. Many believe that the first time this comes up is at we call the Last Supper but this was prophesied from the beginning.
Do we think of ourselves as kings and priests submitted under The King and The High Priest, Christ Jesus? Do we act like it? Are we professing (confessing) it?
Until our next publication, I speak blessing into your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)
24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
