COUNSELS OF HEAVEN
Tuesday – Aug 29, 2017

Welcome back to our Bible Study taken from the wonderful Book of Hebrews. Now in the name of Jesus receive the greetings and blessings from Dr. and Mrs. Wood, make a choice to share in the Grace given unto us. God is so very good. Our God is nothing but good. If it isn’t good, it isn’t God. God is in control only when we give Him control. He is not controlling the bad things in our lives except as we close the door that allowed the devil to steal, kill, and destroy in the first place, as we allow the ourselves to be Spirit led, and we cast the care of it onto Him. Otherwise the door is open for an ongoing judgment in our lives. Pay close attention to the following verse.
Romans 8:28 (KJV)
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
The key to the preceding verse is that we love God and that what we are engaged in accomplishes His purposes. Love of God is obedience to the Word and the leadership of the Holy Spirit. The purposes of God are for us to be just like Jesus furthering the Kingdom of God.
Now let’s return to our study.
Hebrews 3:1-3 (KJV)
1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;
2 Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.
3 For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house.
As we start to dissect verse two, the ‘who’ is Christ Jesus and the ‘him’ although not capitalized is the Father. Again, we see the ongoing comparison of Christ Jesus, the Son, with others to demonstrate His exceeding superiority. In the current teaching, the Son is being compared with Moses. In the eyes of the Hebrew there is none higher than Moses except Jehovah Himself. The flesh and blood writer of Hebrews by inspiration of God (leadership of the Holy Spirit) tells us that Christ Jesus was faithful to the Father. Further we learn that it was the Father, Jehovah, also referred to as Yahweh, who appointed The Word to come as Messiah, Christ Jesus. Know that these things were settled in the counsels of Heaven long before this current creation (Genesis 1:3 and following), long before mankind’s first sin.
1 Peter 1:18-20 (KJV)
18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
Our Hebrew text above tells us that Jesus was and is faithful to the Father just as Moses had been faithful to the Father concerning the children of Israel. Our 1 Peter text above introduces the idea that The Word was the One appointed of Jehovah long before the first sin of man to be the Redeemer should one be necessary.
Revelation 13:8 (KJV)
8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
The general context of the preceding verse is during the Tribulation and how those remaining on earth are worshipping the dragon and the beast. However, buried in that verse is a reference to “the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.” Praise God that my name is and shall remain in the book of life of the Lamb! We saw this phrase above in 1 Peter 1:20 concerning the “foundation of the world.” So, let’s take another look before we move on.
1 Peter 1:18-20 (KJV)
18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
In just a moment I am going to hone in on the word ‘foundation’ remembering that we are taking a slight rabbit trail as it relates to “faithful to him that appointed him”. There are many that believe the earth is around six thousand years old give or take a few years. I believe that the natural archaeological record soundly disputes that point of view. More importantly, I believe the spiritual record, the Word of God, soundly disputes that point of view. I believe the age of the earth is likely in the billions of years, it is whatever it is, whatever science needs it to be. The earth being very old in no way diminishes the Scripture. I do not even dispute the “Big Bang Theory”. Just look at Genesis 1:1. There was a time when there was no physical creation, at least not the one which is culminating in our time. Then suddenly there were the heavens and the earth. God spoke and all of that creation came into existence.
Until our next publication, I speak blessing into your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)
24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
