THE CASTING DOWN

Welcome back to our wonderful Bible Study taken from the Book of Hebrews. This Bible Study is presented by Dr. Wood and The Three Minute Word publications for the edification of us all. Now to our Bible Study in the Book of Hebrews. First let’s fix our attention on our primary text.
Hebrews 3:1-4 (KJV)
1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;
2 Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.
3 For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house.
4 For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.
I am talking about the One (Jesus) who was and is faithful to Him (the Father) that appointed Him. We have taken a little rabbit trail to discuss when this appointment occurred. Let’s see where the Scripture will take us.
Genesis 1:1-2 (KJV)
1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
Notice in Genesis 1:1 that God has created the heavens and the earth. Anything that God creates, makes, is not chaotic as we find the heavens and the earth in Genesis 1:2. Something catastrophic has happened, principally the sin of Lucifer and the rebellion of one third of Heavens angels. Jeremiah was given a glimpse into Genesis 1:2 and some of what preceded it.
Jeremiah 4:23-27 (KJV)
23 I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light.
24 I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly.
25 I beheld, and, lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled.
26 I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger.
27 For thus hath the LORD said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end.
You can clearly see there was a civilization and it was completely destroyed. However, God did not make a full end, He chose to take the building blocks and bring about a new creation, the one in which we are the redeemed of the Lord. We must be careful not to rush to the judgment that the creation of Genesis 1:1 and Jeremiah 4 were like this one. Lucifer was the likely ruler of this destroyed civilization God allowed Jeremiah to see. The sin and the casting down of Lucifer (Satan, the Serpent) is the likely cause of the devastation described in Jeremiah four.
Ezekiel 28:14-16 (KJV)
14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.
15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.
16 By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.
Notice that Lucifer was an anointed cherub that covered, like those in the Tabernacle that covered the Mercy Seat and the Ark of the Covenant. He was an archangel. Notice in verse sixteen the phrase “multitude of thy merchandise” led to his sin. As we will see in the following passage He wanted to rule over God and this got him the boot.
Isaiah 14:12-17 (KJV)
12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
16 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;
17 That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?
This brought us to Genesis 1:2-3. The final point I want to make today centers around the word ‘foundation’. The Lamb was ordained to be slain before the foundation of the world. Some might think this referred to Genesis 1:1 or the beginning of this creation in Genesis 1:3 but we have to consider the word more closely to get the full meaning. This word foundation at its root means ‘casting down’. Well, that casts a whole new light don’t you think considering the journey I just took us on. When Lucifer was cast down and the world system of that time with it a decision was made to make a man in the image and likeness of God and if that man sinned there was to be a Redeemer. Thank you, Christ Jesus.
Until our next publication, I speak blessing into your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)
24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
