DAILY AND YEARLY
Friday – January 12, 2018

I think it should be increasingly clear that all which was done before Calvary was looking forward to Calvary even though it had a function, mercy, and a covering for sin until Shiloh come. Our God is so very good. Now let us review our primary Bible text as we move forward with our wonderful Bible Study from the Book of Hebrews.
Hebrews 9:1-7 (KJV)
1 Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary.
2 For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein was the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary.
3 And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all;
4 Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant;
5 And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we cannot now speak particularly.
6 Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God.
7 But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:
As we move into Hebrews 9:6 we see the writer differentiating between the time of the Tabernacle and the time of his/her writing. At the time the Book of Hebrews was written, Jesus had come. The priests of the time of the Tabernacle and Temple were ordained to perform certain functions each day in the Tabernacle. Those duties on a daily basis took place in the Courtyard and the Holy Place. These duties as we have discussed included the daily sacrifice and the various sacrifices and offerings people brought to the Tabernacle for various reasons including for sin. The priests of the Levitical priesthood entered into the Holy Place daily to change the Shewbread, to place coals and incense on the Altar of Incense, and dress the Menorah in the morning and evening. These all looked forward to the coming of Christ, and the institution of the final High Priest of the order of Melchizedek. These functions also looked forward to the reconciliation of mankind individually to God.
As we shift our attention to Hebrews 9:7 we find the High Priest going into the Most Holy Place only once per year. Both the number nine and seven have to do with spiritual completion and of course the Book of Hebrews is still the number nineteen, the faith Book just as Psalms is the faith Book of the Old Testament. We could say it like this; in union with Christ by faith we are made spiritually complete. When the High Priest of old went into the Most Holy Place once a year his sins and those of the people were atoned (covered over) for another year. The High Priest of old could not enter the Most Holy Place except on the Day of Atonement and not without blood and the censer with incense. If he entered without these or in any way differed from what God ordained, he would die. Along the lower hem of the High Priests garment were alternating bells and pomegranates.
Exodus 39:25 (KJV)
25 And they made bells of pure gold, and put the bells between the pomegranates upon the hem of the robe, round about between the pomegranates;
The bells of pure gold announced the coming of the One who was pure to take away the sin of the world. The pomegranates are a fruit with a great many seeds, said to be six-hundred and thirteen which is the number of laws given of God. This acknowledged the Law and the coming Grace. It is said that they would tie a rope on the High Priests leg so that if they no longer heard the bells and he was in there longer than expected he was likely dead and they could pull him out by the rope. As we finish for today and for the week, let us look ahead to the coming verses.
Hebrews 9:8-10 (AMP)
8 By this the Holy Spirit points out that the way into the [true Holy of] Holies is not yet thrown open as long as the former [the outer portion of the] tabernacle remains a recognized institution and is still standing,
9 Seeing that that first [outer portion of the] tabernacle was a parable (a visible symbol or type or picture of the present age). In it gifts and sacrifices are offered, and yet are incapable of perfecting the conscience or of cleansing and renewing the inner man of the worshiper.
10 For [the ceremonies] deal only with clean and unclean meats and drinks and different washings, [mere] external rules and regulations for the body imposed to tide the worshipers over until the time of setting things straight [of reformation, of the complete new order when Christ, the Messiah, shall establish the reality of what these things foreshadow—a better covenant].
All of these things were a bridge from the Day of Sin to the Day of Redemption at Calvary. They were a type and a shadow of the wonderful things to come. These things were not able to really expunge sin and bring spiritual life to men but there was One coming who would change it all. These men were a slave to sin but when the Holy Spirit would come, our submission to Him would give us the empowerment to walk as Jesus walked. We are now walking in that better Covenant, let us seek to excel for the glory of God.
Until our next publication, I speak blessing into your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)
24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
