ENOCH PLEASED GOD
Wednesday – April 11, 2018, Nisan 26, 5778

Greetings and welcome back to this faith building Bible Study from the Book of Hebrews as we diligently seek to perfect our faith. First however I want to thank the faithful friends of this ministry who read, study, and comment on the content from time to time in one way or another. Some of you share this on Facebook with your friends and that gives us great joy. Others of you are not only friends but partners of this ministry and we are especially grateful that you find these teachings to be of such value to you that you invest of yourself, your resources. Thank you to all our friends and partners. Now, to our primary text in Hebrews and on to our study.
Hebrews 11:4-6 (KJV)
4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.
5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Yesterday we delved into the faith of Abel and the presumption of Cain in bringing a sacrifice for sin. Cain apparently thought he could just do any old thing and have life, however his brother Abel understood that life was in the blood, the blood of the best, unblemished lamb. The same sacrifice that God used in the Garden of Eden to cover them, their sin, would also cover Abel and now we have that testimony echoing down through the ages that Abel had and exercised faith and was found righteous. Jesus even testified to his righteousness during His earthly ministry (Matthew 23:35).
Now what about this fellow Enoch? As you are likely aware there is not much said about him in Scripture say compared to Abraham but here he is in the faith fall of fame.
Genesis 5:19-24 (KJV)
19 And Jared lived after he begat Enoch eight hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:
20 And all the days of Jared were nine hundred sixty and two years: and he died.
21 And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah:
22 And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:
23 And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years:
24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.
In the Book of Jude, we find that Enoch was the seventh from Adam and he is in the lineage of Jesus on the paternal (Joseph) side. Seven is the number of spiritual completion or perfection. We can all be a ‘seven’ by walking with God. I am sure there are many who were the seventh but did not chose the needful thing. The needful thing for us, for Enoch, as it was for Mary (Mary [chose the good part] and Martha account) is to sit at Jesus’ feet, to focus on the Word. That does not mean we ignore the things of life but it does mean that we make sure we are on the path with Jesus and not other gods. Jesus said my yoke is easy and my burden is light (Matthew 11:30). Matthew is the first book of the New Testament and the number of unity, unity with God, which is the Peace of God. Eleven is alignment with God, and thirty is the number of the Blood of Jesus. By the Blood of Jesus, we align with God and come into oneness with Him. O the Word is so good!
Enoch chose the good part, am I, are you? We are told that Enoch “walked with God”. Are we continually walking with God, even at the grocery store? Are we continually God inside me and God with me minded? God and Enoch became so close, they truly were one, and God (Elohim) took him into Heaven. Enoch is one of two people (Elijah) taken alive into Heaven spirit, soul, and body during the Old Testament period. Both are a picture of the coming Messiah, the Catching Away of the Church. The word “translate” in our Hebrew text means to carry away or to remove to another place. Let’s see what the epistle of Jude has to say about Enoch.
Jude 1:14-15 (KJV)
14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,
15 To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.
We do not see this prophesy which Jude attributes to Enoch in Genesis where we first learn about Enoch nor anywhere else in Scripture. However, the Apostle John talks about the very same event in the Book of Revelation.
Revelation 19:11-14 (KJV)
11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
Both the Jude and the Revelation reference are talking about the Second Coming of Christ when He sets foot on the Mount of Olives, walks across the Kidron Valley and enters Jerusalem through the Eastern Gate as the conquering King to setup His 1000-year rule in the earth. O what wonderful things lie just ahead saints of God. Let us, each one of us, commit to have no less faith than Enoch, to walk with God, and one day we will not be found upon the earth either and it will be said that we pleased God.
Until our next publication, I speak this Scriptural prayer for your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
2 Peter 1:2-4 (KJV)
2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
