SAUSAGE MAKING IS MESSY

Greetings dear brothers and sisters in Christ, and welcome to this ongoing study of “Father Abraham”. We will be reviewing Abraham’s life for it is encouraging for us all to see how God can and does flow in and through imperfect people to accomplish His will. Abrahams life was pivotal to the redemption account and the restitution of all things. I started this series of teachings showing the glorious end result then we went to the beginning to see the sausage be made. Now, let’s continue examining Abram then Abraham’s journey with the Lord to the fulfillment of the most important promise ever, the birth of a promised child to the birth of the Promised Child.
Yesterday we saw God initiate Blood Covenant with Abram, with us all that believe, when Abram asked how he could know for sure he would inherit the land. Now, we are moving to a messy part of the sausage making. For those that don’t think what they do impacts others they only need to look at Adam and Eve and to this example we are about to read.
Genesis 16:1-4 (KJV)
1 Now Sarai Abram’s wife bare him no children: and she had an handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar.
2 And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the LORD hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.
3 And Sarai Abram’s wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife.
4 And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.
Have you ever tried to help the Lord out with getting something done? It appears that Sarai was impatient waiting for the promised child. I certainly understand that, but we must be patient, for us it is a fruit of our spirit given of God. As we look at verse four, we see that perhaps Sarai’s thoughts concerning this were not clear. She had not thought through the idea. She initiates the idea; Abram is a willing participant but then when the intended purpose is manifest, she looks down on Hagar and treats Hagar badly. So, Hagar flees from Sarai into the wilderness and prepares for him and her to die. Next, we find an angel from Heaven encounters Hagar in the wilderness.
Genesis 16:11 (KJV)
11 And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the LORD hath heard thy affliction.
Ishmael means God hears. Ishmael is the father of the Arab peoples many of which are now Muslims. Let’s look at what God said about Ishmael through the angel.
Genesis 16:12 (NIV)
12 He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone’s hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward all his brothers.”
We are certainly seeing this today. Consider Iran.
Genesis 16:16 (KJV)
16 And Abram was fourscore and six years old, when Hagar bare Ishmael to Abram.
Abram was 86 years old when Ishmael is born. As we will see in our next study, God does not speak to Abram for the next thirteen years. Thirteen is the Bible number of rebellion and depravity.
TAKE HOME:
- Making sausage is messy.
- Let us do our part in obedience to God but not try to help Him with His part.
- Disobedience has consequences.
As the Lord wills, I will return tomorrow with fresh revelation. The Lord bless and keep you and yours. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
