FROM THE PROPHETS CHAMBER – WEEK FIFTY-TWO
MAN OF GOD AND THE OLD PROPHET

Greetings dear and precious saints of God and welcome back to “FROM THE PROPHETS CHAMBER”. Today’s teaching could just as easily be titled “THE COST OF DISOBEDIENCE”. I wonder if we even recognize the curse in our lives as the cost of disobedience? Perhaps you don’t like the sound of this teaching and have bailed to find an ear tickling teaching. If not, please take a moment and share these teachings as widely as possible to bring the good news, the Truth, to an expanded audience. Thank you for sharing. If you follow this blog on a regular basis perhaps even use it as a morning devotional, may I ask why you don’t share it?
The teaching today comes out of 1 Kings chapter thirteen. Thirteen is the number of rebellion and depravity (evil and corruption). We don’t take the Word of God nearly seriously enough, even trivialize it, and laugh about sin. What else explains our condition? We laugh at sayings contrary to the Word of God. I am guilty of this, but these things should not be so. As we see in this very instructive account, we must never at any time allow anyone to move us off the Word of God. Our life may be at stake. Let’s set the scene. A person, a Prophet, only identified as “a man of God” was sent to prophesy against an ungodly alter. The King, Jeroboam an ungodly king, was there and put forth his hand against the man of God. The kings hand withered immediately.
Psalm 105:15 (KJV)
15 Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.
Remember when David had opportunity to kill king Saul he would not kill him based on this command of God. As the king grabbed hold of the man of God the alter exploded as the man of God had declared. Immediately the king had a dramatic change of heart and begged the man of God to pray for his restoration. The man of God prayed and the hand was restored. The king is grateful.
1 Kings 13:7-10 (KJV)
7 And the king said unto the man of God, Come home with me, and refresh thyself, and I will give thee a reward.
8 And the man of God said unto the king, If thou wilt give me half thine house, I will not go in with thee, neither will I eat bread nor drink water in this place:
9 For so was it charged me by the word of the LORD, saying, Eat no bread, nor drink water, nor turn again by the same way that thou camest. (Bold added)
10 So he went another way, and returned not by the way that he came to Bethel.
An old Prophet heard of these extraordinary things and goes to the man of God asking him to come home with him and eat.
1 Kings 13:15-17 (KJV)
15 Then he said unto him, Come home with me, and eat bread.
16 And he said, I may not return with thee, nor go in with thee: neither will I eat bread nor drink water with thee in this place:
17 For it was said to me by the word of the LORD, Thou shalt eat no bread nor drink water there, nor turn again to go by the way that thou camest.
The man of God is not confused as to the will, the command of God for him this day. Then the old Prophet lies and the man of God comes to his house to eat and drink contrary to the Word of God.
1 Kings 13:18-19 (KJV)
18 He said unto him, I am a prophet also as thou art; and an angel spake unto me by the word of the LORD, saying, Bring him back with thee into thine house, that he may eat bread and drink water. But he lied unto him.
19 So he went back with him, and did eat bread in his house, and drank water.
This old Prophet is imperfect at best but a Prophet and he prophesies to the man of God.
1 Kings 13:20-22 (KJV)
20 And it came to pass, as they sat at the table, that the word of the LORD came unto the prophet that brought him back:
21 And he cried unto the man of God that came from Judah, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Forasmuch as thou hast disobeyed the mouth of the LORD, and hast not kept the commandment which the LORD thy God commanded thee,
22 But camest back, and hast eaten bread and drunk water in the place, of the which the LORD did say to thee, Eat no bread, and drink no water; thy carcase shall not come unto the sepulchre of thy fathers.
He basically says, due to your disobedience you will not die among your people and you will not be buried with your people.
1 Kings 13:24 (KJV)
24 And when he was gone, a lion met him by the way, and slew him: and his carcase was cast in the way, and the ass stood by it, the lion also stood by the carcase.
It seems that the old Prophet is remorseful and honors the man of God. They both sinned a great sin.
1 Kings 13:29-31 (KJV)
29 And the prophet took up the carcase of the man of God, and laid it upon the ass, and brought it back: and the old prophet came to the city, to mourn and to bury him.
30 And he laid his carcase in his own grave; and they mourned over him, saying, Alas, my brother!
31 And it came to pass, after he had buried him, that he spake to his sons, saying, When I am dead, then bury me in the sepulchre wherein the man of God is buried; lay my bones beside his bones:
Perhaps our disobedience has not cost us our lives (yet), but we opened the door for the thief to steal, kill, and destroy in our life as a result. Perhaps we have encouraged people to go in a way contrary to what they know the will of God to be for them. Have we cost other people their destiny?
Lord willing, I will have another fresh Word from the Throne next week.
2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it, believe it, doubt it not, and speak over yourself and your family in Jesus’ name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
