GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT – PART FIFTEEN
Greetings and welcome to all who join this blog, the Friday Bible Study titled “Gifts”. I am currently focused on the nine gifts of the Spirit (Holy Spirit). Please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible to expand the reach of this Ministry and the Truth. Now let’s prepare our hearts to dive into our study of the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit. We decide ahead of time to receive, and believe all Truth being a good Berean allowing the Truth to change our thoughts, words, and life. A gift can be a talent, skill, or ability and is a present, or something granted. In the case of the gifts of the Spirit it is a gifting which conveys a supernatural ability. Now, let’s turn our attention to the Apostle Paul’s discussion of these gifts by the unction of the Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 12:1 (KJV)
1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
I would think that most people would say that they do not want to be ignorant yet remain woefully ignorant of the Word of God. Why? Slackness! Just like salvation did not just drop on us neither does anything else in the Kingdom of God including these gifts of the Spirit. Are we studying the Word of God or just attending Sunday service and perhaps reading a chapter or two a day because someone said we ought too? Scripture is clear we are to study.
2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Study brings approval from God so the lack of study would bring disapproval. Proper study (God knows our heart) also brings happiness and not shame. Study also brings a right dividing of the Word of truth (Word of God). Every bit of that sounds good to me, what about you? So, why aren’t we doing it? Afterall the Word of God is eternal and is setting our eternal future whereas most if not all of what we did instead had no good eternal consequences and perhaps detrimental consequences. Something to think about. Now let’s move on.
1 Corinthians 12:4-11 (KJV)
4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
I will now talk or teach about “divers kinds of tongues” and then we will move to “the interpretation of tongues”. The Apostle Paul spends an inordinate amount of time on the topic of the gift of the Spirit of tongues. We will start to explore that today and in the coming weeks. I have been in Church meetings where there were many tongues and interpretations given. It was well beyond the guidelines the Apostle Paul gives by the leadership of the Holy Spirit. Sometimes it would burst forth multiple times in the middle of the sermon. None of that is prompted of the Holy Spirit.
Churches are to be filled, the individuals and the whole, with the fire of Heaven but not wild fire which comes from the devil or an undisciplined and/or untrained body of believers. This ‘fire’ I am speaking of is the manifested goodness of God by way of the Holy Spirit (the fire of Heaven). So called ‘wild fire’ may not be the Holy Spirit at all but may be one who is undisciplined and untrained reacting emotionally. Also, we have seen and perhaps you have seen persons speaking out loudly in tongues sounding like a message or perhaps during other parts of the service without interpretation. Many times, this is someone speaking forth in their prayer language not the gift of tongues. Others in the congregation especially leadership must distinguish this and move the service forward without embarrassment to the person speaking unless they are resistant to training and/or instruction.
The phrase “divers kinds of tongues” simply means various languages. These may be known human languages or they may be the languages of angels.
1 Corinthians 13:1 (KJV)
1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
The word ‘charity’ here is love (agape). Love is the power of faith and we overcome nothing without faith. Lord willing, I will resume our study of the nine gifts of the Spirit right here next Friday.
2 Chronicles 20:20b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Until our next publication, as a Bible Teacher and Prophetic Voice I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it, believe it, and speak over yourself and your family by faith in Jesus name! Quit asking God to bless you, you are already blessed, you have the Blessing, give Him something to do by the words of your mouth. Once you know the will of God, decree the thing (Job 22:28, Isaiah 45:11, Mark 11:23). (The Blessing is the Holy Spirit) We have left God way to long with nothing to do in our lives.
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
