HEALTH, HEALING, AND MIRACLES – PART THIRTY-TWO
Sunday – October 14, 2018, Cheshvan 5, 5779

Greetings and welcome back to this wonderful and powerful Bible Study. Remember, we look to the Scripture to see what our responsibilities are, what our benefits are and study examples of various behaviors and the outcomes both good and bad. We are examining the miracles of Jesus as a template of what must come to manifest in each of our lives who are serious about Jesus, about being like Him, being like God. We were created to be like our Heavenly Father. The Word of God received, believed, and implemented will cause us to lay aside the curse and walk in the blessing becoming more and more like Him. We must be able to say as Jesus said, if you have seen me you have seen the Father. Under our Blood Covenant the very best is the maintenance of health or a return to health which we then maintain with good physical habits and the Word of God. Today we are going to look at the widow’s son being raised from the dead. Have any of us seen that recently or ever?
Luke 7:11-17 (KJV)
11 And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and much people.
12 Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her.
13 And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.
14 And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.
15 And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.
16 And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people.
17 And this rumour of him went forth throughout all Judaea, and throughout all the region round about.
Immediately before this passage is the account of Jesus healing the Roman Centurions servant by speaking the word only. Immediately following this is the account of John the Baptist sending two disciples to inquire of Jesus if He was the one (referring to the Messiah) or should they be looking for another. This is the same John the Baptist that baptized Jesus in the Jordan River, saw the Holy Spirit (form of a dove) descend upon Jesus, heard the Father speak from Heaven, and had declared that Jesus was indeed the Lamb of God (Messiah). What happened? John the Baptist is out of the spotlight, and he knew he needed to diminish and Jesus increase but probably more importantly he is in prison for criticizing the morals of the king and will shortly loose his head. John became offended and it cost him his life. We must avoid offense without exception. Back to the widow’s son.
We find Jesus and His disciples entering the city of Nain which means pleasant place or beautiful place but for one family on this day it was not pleasant or beautiful. A widows’ only son was being carried out of the city for burial. There is no evidence in the account that Jesus was informed by others that she was a widow or that this dead man was her only son. Let me remind us all that this was not because He was operating as God, He was not, He was operating as an Anointed man filled with Holy Spirit and power so this is the gift of knowledge (1 Cor 12:8) in operation. This is seen commonly throughout the ministry of Jesus. We see that Jesus had compassion upon this woman. Real compassion is a very deep-seated emotion meaning to suffer with. Jesus was suffering with this woman, He really did feel her pain. Nain is in northern Israel just a short distance southeast of Nazareth, perhaps five miles, so it is possible they all knew each other. Let us remind ourselves of the account of Jairus when Jesus is on His way to his house to heal his daughter and the servant comes and says don’t bother the Master any further your daughter is dead.
Luke 8:50 (KJV)
50 But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole.
Can you imagine how difficult it must have been for Jairus that day not blurt out a negative confession and burst into weeping. Can we imagine how difficult it must have been for this widow to not weep when Jesus gave the command. This weeping is likely not just sorrow due to the death of this boy but fear. This woman has no husband and no children, therefore no means of support. The text does not specifically tell us that the woman stopped weeping but we know that she must have otherwise the boy would have stayed dead. This woman had faith, faith in the Word of God, faith in this man, faith in the name of Jesus. This city is only about ten miles from Cana where He turned water to wine. Her putting away of the sorrow and the fear was a step of faith and that ignited with the Anointing which raised that boy from the dead at the command (not prayer) of Jesus. Jesus touched the coffin and spoke directly to that dead body commanding it to arise and he did arise. Jesus spoke or decreed the will of the Father into existence (by the Holy Spirit) in response to the mother’s faith. Jesus did not and we are not to ask the Father but to place a demand on the will of the Father and the Father will do it. The word usually translated as “ask” in Scripture would more accurately be translated or thought of as placing a demand, a demand on the Covenant. Let us get about our Father’s business.
Until our next publication, I speak this Scriptural prayer for your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Exodus 15:26 (KJV)
26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.
