I SPEAK NOT OF MYSELF
Thursday – November 7, 2019, Cheshvan 9, 5780
Greetings precious brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus and welcome back to this illuminating and empowering Bible Study of the Book of John. As I have mentioned many times before the Word of God does not automatically become illumination or empowering. We must receive it as the Word of God, we must believe it as the Word of God, we must put it in first place as the Word of God, and we must do whatever corresponding action is called for in faith, motivated by love, and led of the Holy Spirit. The Word of God is a great and very precious gift that we must handle with the utmost of care and reverence. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text for today.
John 14:9-12 (KJV)
9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
10 Believes thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.
12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
As we move forward in our primary Bible text, we find Jesus asking Philip and I suppose the others gathered, don’t you believe I am in the Father and the Father in me? He is asking them about their faith. Did they actually believe or were they along for the ride so to speak? Of course, many in the Church are punching a religious scorecard, having a social gathering, coming for the music, or to see what happens. Do we believe that Jesus is in the Father and the Father in Him? We might pause and ask ourselves where that leaves us? Let’s briefly meditate on the following passage and shout for joy.
John 17:21-24 (KJV)
21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. (Bold added by Dr. Wood)
22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.
24 Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.
We are one with the Father and with Jesus, oh, what a wonderful place! The manifested goodness of God (glory) that was with, upon, and shown in the ministry of Jesus is also ours to show the Church and the world. Verse twenty-three is an amazing Scripture and one we must take a hold of and confess and get deep within us. We must know with no wavering or staggering that the Father loves (agape) just like He loved Jesus, no difference, exactly the same. Now, let’s return to our primary text moving into the (b) portion or latter part of the tenth verse.
John 14:10 (KJV)
10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
We have heard it before but Jesus reiterates that the Words He speaks are not His own but originate with the Father. He goes on to say that the Father confirms the Word with works following.
Mark 16:19-20 (KJV)
19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.
20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.
So, the key to signs following is to work with the Lord and He will confirm the Word. We cannot just speak what we want to speak but what He, the Father through the Holy Spirit, gives us to speak and when that is done just like in the ministry of Jesus, we will see the same results that Jesus got in His ministry. Perhaps we can learn something here. As you have heard me say many times in these teachings, we must speak what He gives us to speak, only do what we see Him doing, and He will do the works. We do all in faith, motivated by love (agape), and led of the Holy Spirit.

Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
