Greetings precious saints of God and welcome to this ongoing study of the Bible Book of James. Have you come with ears to hear and eyes to see? Are you looking for information or revelation, light, to guide your life? It seems to me that this Book is among those that are straight forward and practical at first reading, studying. Now, let’s go ahead into our text for today.
James 1:23-25 (KJV)
23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
Have you noticed that this idea of being a hearer only and not a doer is getting a lot of Bible space. It must be important. Let us determine in our hearts today that this is changing and it is changing today in our lives. In verse twenty-four the word “forgetteth” means to neglect. To neglect means to disregard, ignore, or avoid a thing. We see a similar use of the word in the following verse.
Philippians 3:13 (KJV)
13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
It is not that the thing, the memory, is absent but that we pay it no attention. We must never ignore any part of the Word of God. Now let’s flip the coin. The person who looks into the “perfect law of liberty”, which is the Holy Scripture and continues deciding not to neglect the Truth but to do the Truth, that person is blessed.
Let’s go back to the Philippians 3:13 verse for just a moment. Many people are plagued with negative memories of actions and words from their past. Sometimes we energize these things when we are not fully anchored in who we are in Christ. But commonly the demons or even other people will energize these things from the past to keep us in a state of condemnation and unworthiness. When these memories, thoughts, come into our consciousness we do not choose to continue thinking about it wishing we hadn’t done it, said it, and perhaps repenting for the thousandth time. Instead, we cast it down with a Word of God that counters it and we think on it, the Word of God.
Okay, now back to James 1:25.
James 1:25 (KJV)
25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
Did you notice the qualifiers for being blessed? First you must look into Holy Scripture referred to here as “the perfect law of liberty”. Next, we must continue to look into the Holy Bible. Third we are looking into the Word of God to do what we see not to neglect what we hear. Fourth, this will cause us to engage in the work of the Kingdom of God. Fifth, the blessing comes in the process of our doing, not our hearing. This is not new information dear ones.
Deuteronomy 28:1-2 (KJV)
1 And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:
2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.
Here again we see that doing the Word of God brings the blessings of God into our lives. Believing or hearing is only half of the equation, the equation is completed and brings the blessing in the doing.
TAKE HOME:
- Are we in the Word of God to hear and to do?
- Are you neglecting the negative things of your past and focusing on the promises of God, who you are since salvation.
- Remember we must hear, believe the Word of God then we must do the Word of God. It is in the doing that harvest comes into our lives.
Lord willing, I will resume right here Monday. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
